From the Pastor’s Desk - May 11/12 2019 - 4th Sunday of Easter Mother’s Day and World Day of Prayer for Vocations
There’s good news and bad news; which would you like first? Well I’ll start with some good: note the excellent response to the Bishop’s Gala with over $70,000.00 raised to assist with the good work we’re doing with the Ahousaht nation, the largest of the Nu Chal-Nuth people of the Island’s west coast. This really is fantastic and we had
such a good time raising the money with a palpable joy in the gospel mission and in-creased opportunity to build bridges of friendship with both the Ahousahts and Cowi-chan in attendance. Thanks to SRL for getting a table! I’ll be away next weekend in Ahousaht with our seminarian and 2 other students for a mission trip and you’ll be served by a couple of visiting priests which is always a good opportunity to embrace the Church’s universality. Bad news. Last week it was announced that Fr. Karam is leaving the ministry to discern his future vocation and as vocation awareness director I have to report the loss of one of our seminarians who no longer is pursuing the priesthood. That leaves us with only one seminarian. The shortage of clergy is becoming severe and by next week I’ll report on ramifications for us/me and this Diocese. God help us! On to oth-er practical matters. There will be no Mass this coming Thursday as our priest’s coun-cil meets with the Bishop at 11:00 a.m. Veritas continues and is settling nicely into a great fellowship of formation. Keep your eyes and ears attuned to any who might be interested in RCIA next September. Our little parishioner Lily is back in ICU at the Children’s and I hope to visit her later Sunday and bring all our love and prayers with me. The Church is our Mother and on this mother’s day let’s celebrate the beauty and gift of a mother’s love for her children. Peace in Christ, Fr. Dean

Mary:
Do you know about the Rosary of the

Our Blessed Mother, told the visionaries
of Kibeho, would accompany those who
