Combine the following sentences to make anadjective clause. Use a different pronoun foreach. 1. I sat next to the woman in the office. She was

waiting. 2. My friend is running late. I called him. 3. I bought a car. It is in the parking lot.

Break the following sentences with an adjective clause into two separate sentences. 1. My neighbor who talks a lot caught me in the hallway. 2. There was a lady whom I saw in the park walking her dog.

Singular and Plural Verbs

I know the man who is sitting over there.

The verb in the adjective clause is singular because who refers to a singular noun.

I know the people who are sitting over there.

The verb in the adjective clause is plural because who refers to a plural noun.

Exercise 14 in the hand out

Whose in an Adjective ClauseThe man called the police. His car was stolen.

The man whose car was stolen called the police.

Whose shows possession. His can be changed to whose to make an adjective clause.

I know a girl. Her brother is a movie star.

I know a girl whose brother is a movie star.

Her changes to whose in an adjective clause.

The people were friendly. We bought their house.

The people whose house we bought were friendly.

Their be can changed to whose in an adjective clause.

**Whose is NOT the same as Who’s.

Exercise 19, 20, 21 in hand out

Game!!- Guess Who

Each person gets a game card and a secret identity (“friend”).

Taking turns, tell your partner something that describes your “friend” on your card using an adjective clause. Use complete sentences.

The other person needs to cross out people on their card to figure out who your friend is.

Grammar 1C Guess Who

Write a sentence using Who, Whom, That, Which, and Whose about your classmate.

Read your sentences out loud so your classmates can guess who you’re talking about.

Example:

There is a person who goes to Penn State in my class.

There is a girl whom I talk to in my class.

There is a person that also teaches in my class.

This person has a pet which is small and cute.

There is a person whose hair is red in my class.
