Organizational Structure Achievements

Established organisational structure and hierarchy

•Bishop as trustee•Local BoD•Local staff•H3000 and BOSCO-USA as consulting oversight organisations

Expansion of human resources

•Hiring of local staff•2 project coordinators•1 technical assistant•Executive Director and Accountant roles clarified•BOSCO now has 7 full-time staff and support

Moving into permanent office space at CTC

Completed strategic plan for 2009-2010

New Accounting System and Bank Accounts put in place

Technical Achievements

Redeployment of BOSCO network

•Redeployed to all original BOSCO sites using Coope water tower as a hub•Connected to Gulu town via Radio Maria Tower

Transfer of Network Server

Server formerly resided in Caritas social

communications office

A new server was utilized and transferred to the BOSCO office at

the CTC

Technical Capacity Building

•Inveneo workshop training in Kisumu sponsored by H3000•On site handover of technical duties

ADSL Internet bandwidth is doubled

•From 256 kbps to 512 kbps•UTL remains ISP provider for BOSCO

Doubled the amount of sites we operate in

•22 sites currently including both private and community sites•New Sites:

ICT Training Achievements

Designed and Published Web 2.0 Training Manual and Curriculum

•Manual used at all sites to guide training volunteers in their lessons•Covers Web 2.0 skills: BOSCO Intranet, email, wikispaces, blogs, social media, Google maps, among others•Posted: http://www.bosco-uganda.wikispaces.net/BOSCO+Web+2.0+Training+Manual

Continued implementation of Web 2.0 Training of Trainers (ToT) ICT

programming•Training was ongoing throughout the year at 8 community sites, including rural primary and secondary schools•Curriculum centered on teaching people functional Web 2.0 skills that can fuel collaboration in their community with various stakeholders

Developed and guided user generated Web 2.0 content

•Two functional Web 2.0 collaboration hubs developed: •BOSCO Intranet (bosco.home) •BOSCO Wikispaces site (bosco-uganda.wikispaces.net)

•Taking advantage of high band-width intranet and making efficient use of smaller internet pipe

Implemented Unicef small-scale funding for Web 2.0 training

•485 total people trained; 374 youth trained in basic Web 2.0 ICT skills•Level 1 Web 2.0 Certification is awarded•Increased usage of network corresponding with community trainings

•Network monitoring tool shows that usage of network increased dramatically as formal trainings began

Hosted advanced training Web 2.0 ICT workshop for lead site

Launched “Bridging Classrooms and Cultures” collaboration project

Partnerships and Fundraising Achievements

Unicef

•Partnered with Unicef on small-scale funding proposal to expand to 5 new sites and implement Web 2.0 training•Finalizing a 2 year partnership with Unicef to expand network to 12 new sites and strengthen current sites; will expand into Kitgum and Pader Districts

Horizont3000

•Have maintained partnership with Horizont3000 (Austrian Organization for Development cooperation) for the past 3 years•They provide:

• A full-time advisor for organizational development• Technical training/capacity buiding• Installation• Funding

BOSCO (USA)

•BOSCO USA Board of Directors in South Bend, Indiana, USA•Providing funding and technical support•Support full-time communications envoy in Gulu

War Child Holland

•Partnered with WCH to provide Internet Connectivity to Pagak ICT Center

Strategic partnerships with local Institutions

•Providing Internet connectivity to the following local institutions to help facilitate them in their work and allow them to collaborate with local and international stakeholders

•Caritas Gulu•Archdiocese of Gulu•Radio Maria•Bardegge Division Local Govmt.•Justice and Peace Commission (JPC)•Women and Children First Organization (WACFO)

University of Notre Dame

•Established student intern program with Notre Dame •Student interns come for summer holidays to help in rural Web 2.0 training •Also receive opportunity for intercultural exchange

•Foundation dealing with software•Provided BOSCO with Euros 20,000 funding

Completed Fundraising and Public Relations Awareness tour in U.S.

FUTURE PLANS

2010-2012 BOSCO/UNICEF proposed project

•This proposed project aims to almost double current coverage, installing 16 additional project sites in rural schools and communities, and expand project coverage area from 2 to 4 districts

•Year one: - Emphasizes consolidating Gulu and Amuru districts; and conducting a feasibility study for expansion to Pader and Kitgum districts.•Year Two – Expand service delivery to Pader and Kitgum districts

•Institutional Capacity Building (Grass root to Organisational level) towards Gradual phase out process•This means facing challenges like more resource mobilisation (fundraising, , recruiting more expertise/staff) and increasing the bandwidth etc
