'Aarogyam' - A Health Club was inaugurated by Sandip
Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (SIPS), Mahiravani,
Nashik, Maharashtra at Sandip Foundation as a interactive and
informative platform on 6th August 2013. This innovative idea of
SIPS staff was supported by Principal, Dr. G.N. Chaudhari and
the motivating management of Sandip Foundation.
The function begun with the lamp lightening by the chief guest
and Sarswati Vandana. Dr. Nitin Ghaisas, M.D. Consultant
Cardiologist graced the event as the chief guest; Dr. S.T.
Gandhe, Principal, SITRC; Dr. P.N. Patil, Principal, Sandip
Polytechnic and Prof. D.D. Shinde as guests of honor. Dr. G.N.
Chaudhari gave the vision behind this innovative lead and
focused on added responsibilities of Pharmacist in finding the
ultimate solution to every health problem. On this occasion,
the chief guest - Dr. Nitin Ghaisas expressed his views on
'Healthcare through Heart Care'. Looking to day-today’s life
style, health is getting the secondary importance. Apart from
that, in the society, there are many doubts as well as many
misunderstanding regarding health issues.
Dr. Ghaisas told that pharmacist, as a part of community and
crucial element of health care segment of the country, is
having the prime responsibility to make community aware
about health, health care, health issue and treatment.
The event was witnessed by Prof. Anil Maheshwari, Prof.
Shantanu Kale, Prof. Aashoo Gupta Khan, Dr. Brijesh Ghosh, Mr.
Sudhakar Jadhav, Mr. Ganesh Shinde and Mr. Ajit Wankhede,
Secretary of Maharashtra State Branch of Association of
Pharmacy Professionals. The episode was concluded with the
thanking speech of Mrs. S.G. Talele at the end.

A One-day Workshop on ‘Research Methodology and
Biostatistics’ was organized by P.S.G.V.P. Mandal’s College of
Pharmacy, Shahada, Maharashtra to provide information and
new ideas for future research activities on 21st September
2013 at the College Campus. This workshop was sponsored by
North Maharashtra University (NMU), Student Welfare Section,
Jalgaon, Maharashtra.
The programme was inaugurated by the chief guest Prof. (Dr.)
V.K. Mourya, Principal, Govt. College of Pharmacy, Amravati;
guest of honor Dr. P.S. Nannaware, Director of Student Welfare
Section, Jalgaon; Dr. A.S. Patil, Director PG, P.S.G.V.P. Mandal’s
Colleges, Shahada; Mr. Amit Page from SVKM’S NMIMS, Shirpur.
Principal Dr. S.P. Pawar introduced the mandal and the
president Hon. Shri Annasaheb P.K. Patil. The workshop was
attended by more than 200 students/research
scholars/faculties from various colleges of North
Maharashtra University and over 70 participants presented
research and review articles in oral and posters. The scientific
session comprised of lectures by eminent speakers like Prof.
V. K. Mourya, Mr. Amit Page who expressed their views on
‘Meaning, Objective and Types of Research’ and ‘Basic
Concepts of Biostatistics’.
To encourage and motivate the students, six best oral and
poster presentation awards were given in each discipline by
Prof. S. P. Pawar and Mr. Amit Page at the valedictory function.

collectively put their efforts under the leadership of Co-

Borse to make this programme successful one.

A National Seminar on ‘Techniques of Taste Masking and
Evaluation, Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Patent
Drafting’ was organized by H.K. College of Pharmacy,
Oshiwara, Jogeshwari, Maharashtra on 28th September 2013.
The function was inaugurated by Chief Guest of the day - Dr.
Ashok Omray, President, Ideal Cures Private Limited, Mumbai
who advised students to equip and arm themselves as much as
they can and mentioned not to stop learning and try to absorb
maximum information now before contributing in the
specialized areas.
Other speakers were Mr. Sourabh Dhopade, Mr. Afroj Sayyed,
Mr. Kamlesh Rathod from S. Zhaveri Pharmakem Private
Limited; Mr Sandeep Mane from Roquette India Private Limited
and Ms. Andreya Fernandes, Ms. Bina Dandekar from
Gopakumar Nair Associates. Taste Sensing Machine, Co-
Processed Technology Product, Pre-Lubricated High
Functionality Composite, Cyclodextrins Complexes in
Pharmaceutical Applications, IPR and Patent Drafting were the
highlights of the seminar. Programme was witnessed by Dr.
Rajani Athawale, C.U. Shah College of Pharmacy; Mr. Arvind
Naik, St. Johns College of Pharmacy; Dr. Rashmi Srivastava
and Mrs. Sheeja Koliyote from MET College of Pharmacy; Dr.
MrunmayeeToraskar from Bharati Vidyapith College of
Pharmacy and students/faculties of diverse surrounding
pharmacy institutions.

Sixth International Conference on ‘Recent advances in
Cardiovascular Sciences’ was organized by International
Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences-India Section at Delhi
Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research (DIPSAR),
New Delhi from 31st January-1st February 2014. The conference
was attended by more than 300 Delegates. The inauguration
was chaired by Nobel Laureate Dr. Ferid Murad and graced by
Prof. Ranjit Roy Chaudhury (National Professor of
Pharmacology); Dr. Jagdish Prasad (DGHS, Ministry of Health &
Family Welfare, India); Dr. G.N. Singh (DCGI, India); Dr. N.K.
Ganguly (Former Director General, ICMR, India); Dr. S.K. Gupta
(President IACS, India Section); Dr. S.S. Agrawal (Secretary
General IACS, India Section) and B. Ostadal (Academy of
Sciences of the Czech Republic, Prague).
The scientific session of conference started with a plenary
lecture by Dr. Ferid Murad on “Application of Nitric Oxide
Research to Drug Development and Disease Therapy” and was
followed by six plenary sessions covering topics such as
Recent Techniques in Therapeutics of Heart failure; Stem cell
Therapy for Cardiovascular Diseases; Role of Genetics in
Development of New Treatment Strategies; Molecular
Mechanisms Involved in Heart Failure. Besides plenary
sessions, an oral session as well as poster session was
organised and student delegates showed active participation.
During valedictory function, Medal of Merit was awarded to Dr.
Ferid Murad, Nobel Laureate for Medicine (1998), Washington,
University, USA; Distinguished Leadership Award to Dr. S.K.
Gupta, President-International Academy of Cardiovascular
Sciences, India Section; ‘Suresh K Gupta Oration Award’ to
B. Ostadal, Institute of Physiology, Academy of Sciences of the

Grant N. Pierce, Faculty of Medicine, University of Manitoba,
Winnipeg, Canada; ‘Harpal S Buttar Oration Award’ to K.K.
Aggarwal, President-Heart Care Foundation of India and Sr.
Consultant Medicine, Cardiology, Moolchand, India. Efforts of
Prof S.K. Gupta, Prof. D.P. Pathak, Dr. Wakode and other faculty
members of DIPSAR made the conference a successful one.

A National Symposium on ‘Phyto-Zoo-Medicine and
AYUSH Therapy: Total Health Management’ was organized
by Oriental Education Society’s Oriental College of Pharmacy,
Sanpada, Navi Mumbai on 21st-22nd February 2014. The
symposium was sponsored by Department of AYUSH, Ministry
of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. The event
was inaugurated by Dr. Ashok Vaidya, Research Director, ICMR
Kasturba Health Society, Mumbai as chief guest; Dr. Varsha
Jadhav, Professor, BVC Pharmacy, CBD, Belapur, Navi Mumbai
as guest of honor; Dr. Sudha Rathod, Principal, Oriental College
of Pharmacy as chairman of symposium; Dr. Mohib Khan,
Professor, Oriental College of Pharmacy as convener and
organizing secretary of event.
The programme was held to explore importance of Ayurvedic,
Unani and Homeopathic formulations, further to explore
safety, quality and efficacy of herbal and animal formulations
and to discuss nutraceuticals, functional foods, cupping
therapy, Yoga etc. This National Symposium provided
opportunities for the participants all over India to get
knowledge about Phyto-Zoo medicines and AYUSH therapy in
health management. During the event, faculty members of
hosting institute and surrounding colleges imparting
pharmaceutical education with Ayurvedic, Unani and
Homeopathy showed their presence with enthusiasm.

A Workshop on ‘Handling of Analytical Instruments’ was
organized by Institute of Pharmaceutical Research, GLA
University, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh on 8th March 2014. The
workshop was inaugurated by Prof. R.K. Agrawal, Dean, Dr.
Hari Singh Gour Central University, Sagar, Madhya Pradesh.
The workshop was aimed at providing common platform to
scientists, researchers, academicians and technologists
engaged in pharmaceutical analysis for the exchange of
innovative ideas and forum for discussion on the use of the
technologies. The workshop started with welcome address by
Prof. Pradeep Mishra, Director, Institute of Pharmaceutical
Research (IPR) and discussion on the theme of workshop by
Mr. Kamal Shah, Convener of the workshop. Prof. R.K. Agrawal
and Mr. Santosh Bhardwaj from Shimadzu Analytical (India)
Pvt. Limited, delivered scientific talks.
The main attraction of the workshop was the handling of
UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, FT-IR Spectrophotometer, HPLC,
Bioanalyzer, Phase Contrast Microscope and Brookfield
Viscometer supervised by Mr. Kamal Shah, Mr. Prabhat Kumar
Upadhyaya, Ms. Shruti Tandon, Mr. Gopal Prasad Agrawal, Mr.
Jeetendra Kumar Gupta, Mrs. Sonia Sharma, Mr. Yogesh Murti
and other faculty members of IPR. Around 64 participants
from various institutes attended the workshop and expressed
their satisfaction over the usefulness of the workshop. The
workshop ended with the vote of thanks by Dr. H.N. Yadav, HOD,
Institute of Pharmaceutical Research, GLA University, Mathura.

A National Seminar on ‘Emerging Trends in Spectroscopic
Analysis of Phytoconstituents in Herbal Drug Technology’
was organized by RKDF College of Pharmacy, Bhopal, Madhya
Pradesh on 28th March 2014 at its campus. Event was
sponsored by Madhya-Pradesh Council of Science and
Technology (MPCST) and inaugurated by Dr. Pradeep Mishra,
Director, Institute of Pharmacy, GLA University, Mathura, Uttar
Pradesh and presided over by Mr. Rajeev Chandhok, Director,
RKDF College of Pharmacy, Bhopal. Welcome speech was
delivered by Dr. Jay Ram Patel, Principal, RKDF College of
Pharmacy and Convener of the function.
The scientific session was started with the lecture of Dr.
Pradeep Mishra who gave insights on “Phytochemistry and
Chromatography”. His interactive lecture was followed by
keynote address by Dr. Rajesh Singh, Post-doctoral fellow at
Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER),
Bhopal who enlightened the professional gathering on
“Interpretation of Exact Masses and Isotopic Abundances into
Mass Spectral Patterns”. In the afternoon session, informative
and interactive talk on “Supercritical Fluid Extraction in Herbal
Drug Technology” was delivered by Dr. Surendra Jain,
Director, SIRT-Pharmacy, Bhopal. The day came to end with
lecture by Dr. Love Kumar Soni, Reader, School of Pharmacy,
Devi Ahilya University, Indore on “Intellectual Property
Protection for Herbal Drugs: Approaches and Legal
Implication”. For this programme, nearly 95 students and staff
delegates from different colleges of MP, UP, Maharashtra,
Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh gathered and finally event
was concluded by vote of thanks by Dr. Neeraj Upmanyu.

A National Conference on ‘Nanodermatology, Advances,
Pitfalls and Future Challenges’ was organized by Institute of
Pharmacy, Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur,
Chhattisgarh on 28th-30th April 2014 on the occasion of golden
jubilee celebration of Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University,
Raipur. The conference was inaugurated by Hon. Vice
Chancellor Prof. S. K. Pandey; Prof. V.K. Dixit, Dean and
Academic Head, Bhagyoday Tirth Pharmacy College, Sagar and
Dr. Ajay Sachan, Asst. Drug Controller, New Delhi. Hon. Vice
Chancellor also inaugurated the sophisticated pilot plant
laboratory and biotechnology laboratory of the pharmacy
department which was funded by UGC-BSR and DST-FIST. Prof.
Swarnlata Saraf, convener of the conference, welcomed all the
guests, keynote speakers, delegates and participants. She
discussed about the new and potential findings in the field of
nanodermatology focusing the development of effective
formulations with maximum benefits and minimum harm.
Prof. Shailendra Saraf highlighted the importance and
significance of various events, conferences and seminars
organized by the institute and gave a brief introduction about
the institute. Dr. Amber Vyas, Organizing secretary of the
conference, focused on the coming opportunities for the
pharma personnel, research scholars, academicians,
industrialists and dermatologist regarding the use of powerful
nanotechnology in field of dermatotherapy. Prof. V.K. Dixit
discussed about the biotechnological aspects of research and
development in nanodermatology. Around 85 participants
attended the conference and at last, Dr. Vishal Jain proposed
the vote of thanks to conclude the event.
