PROCEDURE TO SEE COUNSELORS:

• Sign up on the clipboard between classes (using ID # ONLY)

• NO TARDY PASSES WILL BE ISSUED TO STUDENTS!

• Counselor will send for students who have signed up when available.

ARRIVING AT SCHOOL• KMS opens at 8:00 AM

• Students arriving before 8:00 will have to wait outside the building.

• 6th Grade students sit in back hall

• 7th Grade students sit in gym hall

• 8th Grade students sit in the cafeteria

• School begins at 8:30. Students who are late to school must report to the front office. A tardy and pass to class will be issued.

ATTENDANCE•Parents/guardians call Mrs. Junco if students are going to be absent.

•Students may not leave the building unless a parent/guardian checks them out via attendance office.

•Students must have a note/phone call from parent within 48 hours to excuse an absence.

ATTENDANCE

•Unexcused absences are considered truancy and zeros WILL be given for work completed until the absence is excused.

•If students do not bring a note explaining the absence, they will be referred to the AP office for intervention.

MAKE UP WORK

▪1 day sick: 1 day to make up work▪2 days sick: 2 days…▪3 days sick: 3 days…

▪Parents may request work after 3 days out.

▪Parents should call AP Office to request make-up work.

LEAVING CAMPUS• Once students are dropped off or arrive at KMS in the morning, they become the responsibility of KMS.

• Students may NOT leave campus for any reason, especially to purchase something from the convenience store across Woodland Hills.

• Students caught leaving campus will receive disciplinary consequences.

AFTER SCHOOL• Unless attending

tutoring, practice, or d-hall, students are expected to be outside in front of the building at 4:18 PM.

• Students still on campus after 4:40 PM will have a parent conference so timely pick up can occur.

BICYCLES/SCOOTERS/SKATEBOARDS

•Use the greenbelts when possible.

•Lock up bikes and scooters in bike rack.

•Do not leave it overnight; it will probably be stolen or vandalized.

•We have surveillance cameras taping the bike rack.

•No skateboards or rollerblades in the building, on patio, or school sidewalks.

PROCEDURES THURSDAY LATE ARRIVAL

Students needing supervision •Students may stay in café on Thursday mornings.•Café door from the patio opens at 8:00 and locks at 8:30.•Students may NOT leave café until dismissed at 10:00 AM.•Thursday morning breakfast is from 8:00 AM – 8:30 AM.•Students waiting in the cafeteria must remain seated by grade level.•Students may use cell phones or music devices during this time.

PROCEDURES THURSDAY LATE ARRIVAL•Doors open for all students at 9:55 AM.

•Class begins at 10:15 AM.

•No tutorials, fine arts rehearsals, or athletic practices occur Thursday mornings.

•Students who arrive late on Thursday Late Arrival days receive an automatic detention.

PROCEDURE TO SEE NURSE:• Sign up on the clipboard between classes.

• No TARDY PASSES WILL BE ISSUED TO STUDENTS!

• Write your Name and complaint on the clipboard.

• The nurse will send a pass for students who have signed up when she has time to see them.

• If students feel ill during class, they should ask the teacher for permission to go see nurse.

• Emergency Reasons: Fever, vomiting, bleeding, chest pains, difficulty breathing

CLINIC

•Parents and guardians are required to take all medication to the nurse’s office.

•Students are NOT allowed to have any medication in their possession, including cough drops.

•All medicines MUST be dispensed from nurse, even Tylenol and cough drops.

BUSES

Arrival and Dismissal:

•Do not run or horseplay when walking in and around the buses.•Do not cut between buses once they start to pull away from school.•If late, do not chase after bus. Busses will NOT stop to let you on. •Always stand behind the yellow line when waiting for a bus or car.•Buses immediately leave at the 4:17 PM.

BUS CONDUCT1. Students are to follow the driver’s instructions.2. No eating or drinking on the bus.3. Nothing is to be placed outside the window at any time.4. Students are to remain seated when bus is in motion.5. Students are to keep all objects, arms, and legs to themselves and away

from others.6. Loud, boisterous behavior is not tolerated.7. Severely disruptive behavior can result in the police being called.

CONSEQUENCES FOR BUS MISCONDUCT

First Offense: Conference with student and parent(s).

Second Offense: Student will receive Thursday Class. Parent conference.

Third Offense: Student may be subject to school discipline and/or be denied bus riding privileges for up to 5 days. Parent conference.

BACKPACKSBackpacks or drawstring bags▪ bags are not to be carried in the hallways or

classrooms▪ bags need to be kept in lockers▪ backpacks with wheels do not fit in our

lockers

CAFETERIA

•Deposits into accounts can be made during breakfast, at lunch, or online.

•PIN # is ID #, or you can scan ID badge

•May charge up $20 if you do not have money in account

•No Money = Cheese sandwich and milk

•Individual Snack Bar items range in cost.

•All registers will have picture ID to help prevent theft from lunch accounts.

CAFETERIA RULES•Dispose of all trash before leaving the table

•Wait to be dismissed by an adult

•Horseplay and running will not be tolerated in the café

•Do not leave your food items unattended

•No one owns a seat!

•Once you sit down, you will remain seated unless throwing away trash, getting food, or using the restroom.

•You do not need to ask permission to use the restroom during lunch.

DRESS CODE BASICS

• Only ear piercings are only allowed with females

• Males are not permitted to wear earrings

• No facial piercings allowed

•All students receive first ID badge with lanyard for free.

•Students must wear ID badges at ALL times!

•May not deface or cover up any part of the ID badge

•KMS Lanyards = $2.00

•Students without badges will need to get a temporary (in the snack bar area) prior to going to 1st period.

•If you go to class without an ID (permanent or temporary), a referral will be issued.

FORGOTTEN ITEMS AND DELIVERIES

•Forgotten items will be held in the front office.

•Students may get forgotten items between classes or during lunch.

•No deliveries of flowers or balloons will be allowed into classrooms.

CELL PHONE POLICY•Cell Phones allowed before and after school ONLY, unless being used for school purpose under teacher supervision. Student must have signed agreement with teacher.

•Cell Phones should be OFF and out of sight.

•Cell Phones found out during the school day will be confiscated, and turned in to the Assistant Principal’s office.

•Confiscated phones will be returned at end of day.

•1st offense = warning•2nd offense = Thursday class

CELL PHONE POLICY• Text messages sent during school hours that break

the student code of conduct (ie: harassment, threats, inappropriate images) will result in disciplinary action.

LIBRARY •Library hours are 8:00 AM – 4:40 PM.

•Any student may access the library before or after school.

•Students may check out books and/or use the books or computers to do research, or complete homework.

•Sets of student textbooks are available for students to use before and after school.

LOCKERS •Lockers are a privilege.

•Do not share lockers.

•Do not give your combination out.

•Lockers may be searched at any time.

•Students may not access lockers during lunch periods.

•See secretaries in AP office if locker is jammed.

LOST AND FOUND•Assistant Principals’ Office has a small Lost and Found basket.

•LARGE RED Lost and Found Box for clothes, shoes, jackets, etc. located in CAFETERIA.

•Lost and Found Box is cleaned out monthly. Unclaimed items are donated to local charities.

STAFFINGS

▪Administrators, counselors, and teachers will be looking at your progress routinely. If you are struggling, a staffing may be set up with student and/or parent.

▪Staffing is a plan to help ensure academic, attendance, or behavior success will be developed at the staffing.

TARDY SWEEP •Teachers will close and lock doors when tardy bell rings.

•Tardy students will be “swept” to a designated area, teacher will scan ID, and then escorted by an adult to class.

•Students must have a timed pass whenever they are in the halls.
