A small island located at the entrance of Manila Bay.It is a memorial for the valor of the Filipinos and Americans who stood their ground against the Japanese invaders. In 1942 General McArthur and Manuel

Quezon left forAustralia,leaving Lt.Gen.Jonathan Wainwright in command. The Phil. and American forces held out for 1 month but finally surrendered. In 1945 General McArthur returned and recaptured Corregidor.

Roads and bridges were constructed.

The Manila-Dagupan Railways was bought by the govern- ment from the British.(Manila Railroad Company).

An electrically run vehicle called tranvia was introduce by the Manila Electrical Company (MERALCO) IN 1905.

Trucks were introduced.

The Phil. Aerial Taxi Company opened in 1930.Planes flew from Manila to Baguio and Paracale.

The Iloilo-Negros Air Express Company was opened in 1933. Its planes flew from Manila to Iloilo,Bacolod,Davao and places in the south.

CHANGES IN COMMUNICATION

Telephones,radios, televisions and wireless telegraph was introduced.

Bureau posts were created.

They dress like Americans.

American sports were introduced like: Tennis, Soccer,Basketball,Bowling,

Baseball and Football

Holidays in America also became holidays in the Phil. like: Washington Day(Feb.22) Memorial Day(May 30), Glorious Fourth(fourth Thursday of Nov.)
