What a fun evening for a hugecrowd attending the annual

Shepherd’s House benefit Friday eveningat Cross Creek Country Club.

The event featured a car giveaway on a1957 Thunderbird, entertainment by Elvis(aka Stephen Freeman), a silent auction, raf-fle gifts and wonderful buffet dinner, pluspeople watching all during the evening.

Peter Pequeno, chairman of the board,welcomed everyone with the Rev. PhilGoble, executive director, delivering theinvocation.

Goble, accompanied by his wife,Michelle, delivered a message praisingthose who planned the event and to theaudience for attending the celebration.

Emceeing the program were KellyEpperson of WPAQ and Mayor DeborahCochran of WSYD.

Elvis impersonator Stephen Freemanentertained with a program of music for

more than an hour as Jackie Haynes,Jordan Crossingham and Dollie Williamsreceived hugs from the famous performer.

After a delicious buffet dinner, draw-ings were held on a handmade quilt donat-ed by Karen Springthorpe. The winnerwas none other than Claudia Bryant, oneof the hard-working volunteers who hashelped promote the event for many years.

The car draw-down highlighted theevening as everyone waited patiently tolearn who won. Spencer Key and CraigBoyles decided to split the winnings. Tothose who didn’t win the car, just enjoythose dollar ticket gifts and recall what awonderful evening you had among somany friends. And remember that pro-ceeds from the event will make many peo-ple comfortable during sad and bad times.

Alice Hawksparticipates inOperationSmile Train

Alice Hawks, a member of theWomen’s League of Mount Airy, hascompleted another mega mission withOperation Smile in Guwahati, India. Ateam of 100 members from 16 differentcountries operated on 506 childrenrepairing cleft lips and palates. Eachyear the Women’s League makes hospi-tal gowns for Alice to take on her mis-sions as one of their projects. OperationSmile recently merged with Smile Trainand now is known as Operation SmileTrain. The international office is stillbased out of Norfolk, Va. Alice is avail-able to any organization for speakingengagements about Operation SmileTrain and volunteer opportunities. COPELAND SENIORS SUPPORT COMMUNITY

Members of the Copeland Senior Citizens meet the second Wednesday of each month at 10:30 a.m. in the Copeland Ruritan Building.
