5. Turning Right

To tell roamer to turn, he needs to know the number of degrees.

Roamer will need a set of instructions like this:

The 9 and 0 stand for 90o and should be changed to fit the turn you want.

6. Turning Left

To tell roamer to turn, he needs to know the number of degrees.

Roamer will need a set of instructions like this:

The 9 and 0 stand for 90o and should be changed to fit the turn you want.

7. Putting It All TogetherThe instructions you have learnt so far can be added together into a sequence.

Press at the end.

Remember to clear the memory before you start.

is the same as saying go forward 10 spaces. Roamer will move forward 6 spaces and then move forward again 4 spaces. 6 + 4 =

9. Explaining Repeat

When you know how to write a sequence of instructions the next stage is getting some

instructions to repeat. Repeat means to do the same thing again a set

number of times.

Look at the example on the next slide.

X

Repeat• To make this pattern, roamer needs to go -

forward 1 space turn 90o to the left forward 1 space turn 90o to the right forward 1 space turn 90o to the left forward 1 space turn 90o to the right

The instructions are repeated 2 times.

If the pattern continued then you can see it

would repeat the same instructions again and

again.

Pentagon

How many times will the instructions repeat?

Have a look at the instructions for a square and triangle and see if you can

see a pattern.

RTry making a pentagon using the button. If you get stuck click on the pentagon for help.

Can you make pentagons of different sizes? Can you make irregular pentagons? The internal angles add up to 540o

Have a go!

Clue: Each angle of turn for Roamer is 72o

X

CM CMR 5 [ FORWARD 2 RIGHT TURN 72O

The internal angles are each 108o for a regular pentagon. (Think of Roamer continuing in a straight line and turning from that line. Remember angles on a straight line add up to 180o and 180-108= 72)

Look at the angles of the triangle. Are they right angles?

The internal angles of a triangle add up to 180o

For this triangle, each internal angle is 60o

Roamer needs to turn 120o as angles on a straight line add up to 180o

Making Music

Look for button with the musical note. press two numbers -

The first number tells Roamer the length of the note – 1 makes the shortest note, 8 makes the

longest note. The second number tells Roamer how high or low the note is – 1 makes the lowest note, 13

makes the highest note. 14 makes a rest (a silent note).

Carry on pressing different sets of 2 numbers to make a range of notes.

Then press Try it!
