The Evolution of a Leader• Established in 1980• Privately owned• Product History:

Offline Finishing SystemsVariable Imaging Towers
Servo Drive Technology
What Is Inline Finishing?– Producing specially designed products during the press run with no
subsequent operations. Typical combination, double former, and sheeters cannot produce the final product.
– Refers to making • Multifolded products• Non size-specific products • Contoured products• Coated/Glued products• Self mailer products• “Use your imagination”
– Adds value to products– Eliminates commoditization
Inline 101• Analyzing Formats
– Stop thinking in terms of combination folder parameters– Stop thinking in terms of sheeter parameters.– Closer in size and page counts to double former folder formats.– Inline Finishing Systems cannot cross fold.– Page counts are generally smaller than with a combination folder.– Finish trim products on the run for more appeal.– Head to foot dimension is completely variable.– Thumb to backbone dimension is completely variable.
Inline 101• Basic Rules
– All folds are in-line or machine-direction– The head to foot dimension based on the repeat of the press.– The thumb to backbone dimension based on the web width.– The cutting cylinder with virtually any number of blades.– The web can be slit and folded in-line virtually any number of times to
achieve nearly any product face width.– Folds can be Delta, Z, Letter, Up, Down– Face dimensions of each page do not have to be identical.– No pin holes in final product
Inline 101: The Basic Inline
• Angle Bar Deck• Outfeed• Three Plow Towers• Shear Slitter• Rotary Cutter
Inline 101: The Basic InlineDescriptions• Angle Bar Deck-
– Takes in the web at full width– Slits into ribbons– Aligns the ribbons, side by side or stacked
• Outfeed-– Provides proper tension– Compensates the ribbons for registration.
Inline 101: The Basic InlineDescriptions• Plow Tower-
– Creates an inline fold – Single ribbon – Multiple ribbons– Tension control– Any position, up, down, op, gear
Inline 101: The Basic InlineDescriptions• Shear Slitter-
– Final finishing trim – Thumb, center, back edges
• Rotary Cutter-– Final cutoff, head and foot– Contour cut capability– Heart of the inline system: tension control– Delivery table streams product for stacking/handling
Inline 101: Variable Size Products• Uses the
full repeat of the press
• Takes advantage of two around wide web machines
Accomplished with the use of an i-Web Rotary Cutter. The installation of standard chop and/or chip knives on the cutting cylinder and pins in the anvil cylinder allows the final product to be finish trimmed to any size (within the specs of the machine).
Inline 101: Variable Size Products
• Chop Cuts– Single Blades– Multiple Positions Around
• Chip Cuts– Dual Bladed Knives– Multiple Positions Around
