• Is “good” relative or absolute?

Purpose

• I will establish that “Good” can be relative or absolute!

Purpose• Use the revelation to set some

men free:• From hang –ups• Expectations• From Guilt• Resentment• Fear.

1 John 1:8

• If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.

“Good”Adjective, better, best.

1.Morally excellent; virtuous; righteous; pious: (a good man).

2.satisfactory in quality, quantity, or degree:

Relative: Existing or having its specific nature only by relation to something else; not absolute or independent:

(Happiness is relative).

•Absolute: •Free from imperfection; complete; perfect:

Good Men of the Bible• The Bible has stories of

military heroes, prophets, preachers and kings who have followed God and given us good examples to follow.

Major Influence• following is a list of men

who were major influences in the history of the Bible.

• We need to endeavor to become major influences in our world today!

Moses

• Events showing a Godly man and other stories that show a man who struggled with failure in certain areas.

Moses Good man:

• 1. Moses was a man consistently in tune with God’s plan.

• 2. He loved the people of Israel who God called him to lead. From Egypt to Canaan.

• 3. God spoke to him face to face.

Moses Good man: • Sins of Moses;

• Uncontrollable anger & lack of trust.

• 1. Moses, being directed to speak to the rock, smote it instead with the rod of God; twice. 

Moses Good man:

• `He spoke to the people. • "Ye rebels, must we fetch you

water out of this rock?"

• (Psalm 106:33).

Moses Good man:

•Relative or Absolute?

• Depends what aspect you are looking

Bible on Anger:

• (a) James 1:19-20 – Be quick to hear & slow to speak.

• (b) Ephesians 4:26"BE ANGRY, AND yet DO NOT SIN;

• Statistics shows that the anger management issues in the USA are alarming!

Joshua• Joshua was chosen as one of

the 12 spies to enter the land that God had promised to Israel.

• He returned with a Good Report!

Joshua Good man:

• 1. Joshua had a good report Num 13:26-30.

• “Good men” looks at situations through God’s eyes.

Joshua Good man:

• 2. Joshua never tried to usurp the authority of Moses. He waited until it was his time to lead .

• “Good men” respects divine authority.

Joshua Good man: • Joshua was an obedient

follower. He was also known as a strong leader of Israel.

“Good men” are good at observing protocol.

Joshua Good man:Made the sun stand still

• Mistake: He neglected to consult God before a major decision. Joshua 9.

•Relative or Absolute?

David

• God rejected Saul’s reign and said that He would give the kingdom to a neighbor of Saul’s who was a better man

• (I Samuel 15).

David a Good Man• Man after God’s own heart,

refused to repeat sins Acts 13:22

• wrote many of those precious Psalms in the midst of trouble. Yet, David knew that his strength came from God. Psalms 121:2

David’s Mistake:

• Adultery & Murder II Sam. 11.

• Lesson: Prov. 6:32 He who commits adultery is not wise….

David’s Mistake:

• I Cor. 6:18 sexual sins is intertwined with the heart, soul, mind, and the body.

(Double whammy)

David’s Mistake:

• A “good man” knows how to trust in the Lord, he also knows how to rebound after adversity.

• Encourage yourself in the Lord

Job

• God said that He knew a “Good man” who was just & upright in his life. This man was Job.

 

Job

• God gave Satan rule over Job’s circumstances causing him to lose all of his wealth. Job still would not speak evil against God.

• Accused of sin by his friends .

• Discouraged & Neglected by his wife.

• Lesson: A “good man” remains faithful in the face of adversity & accusations.

• Character is tested and tried in the fire of adversity & accusations.

3 kinds of men serve God when:1. When things are good. 2. When things are bad. 3. Regardless of how things

are.

Daniel a Good Man

• Daniel accepted the punishment that was given to him without complaint.

• Lesson: Every decision will be put to the test.

• When we stand up for God, he will stand up for us.

• A “Good man” will pray without ceasing. A “Good man is blessed”

Daniel a Good Man

• Cause of jealously: Fear = Lack of self confidence: Poor self image, Insecurity,

burn-out.

Paul, a Good Man

• A “Good man” leaves a legacy for future generations.

Paul, a Good Man• Lesson: Your past is not as

important as your present & future, where you have been is not as important as where you see yourself going!

• Your past mistakes do not define your future.

• A “Good man” knows how to break loose from his past & become “A new creation”

Barnabas a Good Man

• Lesson: The body of Christ needs mentors who can look beyond people’s past.

• We have many “GOOD men” with messed up past.

• The gifts, calling and purpose of “Good men” can be sabotaged because of their past.

John the Baptist:

• “Good men” should stand firm on their convictions. (Be persuaded)

• Rom 8:38-39.

My personal appeal to the body of Christ:

• Let’s become more holistic in our approach, let’s use our platform/Ministry to address current issues.

• A. Social Justice, • B. Church security…..

My personal appeal to the body of Christ:

• C. Establishment of Institutions,

• D. Job fair/ entrepreneur training,

• E. Immigration Issues.

• F. Training of current & future Leaders.
