Spring Flowering Bulbs- Fall Planting

Spring �owering bulbs will provide vibrantcolors in the early spring months when hardly any other plants are blooming. For gardens,parks, or golf courses, bulbs are useful in anylandscape plan! We o�er you a selection of the strongest varieties, which you can mix and match to your own requirements. We only supply top size bulbs for the best �owering results

Soil

No particular soil is required. Loosen the soilbefore planting and add some compost if necessary. Plant in well-drainted soil.

Bulbs in Containers

Plant bulbs in layers to prolong the �oweringperiod. Bulbs that �ower early, like crocus areplanted on top of the later �owering bulbs like tulips. You may also use removable innercontainers, so that the �owers can be replacedwhen their blooming period is over.

Bulbs in Lawns and Grass Strips

Da�odils, Crocus, and Scilla Siberica are verysuitable for planting under grass. The earliest �owering bulb types are the best choice, asthe grass cannot be cut until 6-8 weeks after�owering of the bulbs. Add some fertilizerafter fall planting and in early spring, justbefore �owering.

Delivery through your local location isavailable from September through December.Orders and re-orders placed in the fallthrough December will be �lled, and east coast locations are guaranteed next day delivery.

Planting Depth and Spacing

Plant the bulbs at a depth that is double theirlength. Place large bulbs with the “nose” facing upwards in the planting hole. Small bulbs can be scattered. The distance betweenthe bulbs depends on the visual e�ect your are looking for.

Planting Time

Spring bulbs must be planted in the fall to develop a good root system and to satisfy thebulb’s cold requirement for spring �owering. The warmer the climate, the later you must plant the bulbs, as long as they are plantedbefore the �rst frost. In general, it’s best to plant when the soil temperature is below 60 degrees fahrenheit. For very warm climates, give the bulbs a pre-cooling of 8-12 weeks.

Mass Plantings in Beds and Borders

Add spring �owering bulbs to perennial androse borders for color in early spring. Large plantings of hyacinths, da�odils, and tulips add a beautiful multi-color e�ect to the border. Plant them in separate groups or makelarge informal mixtures of di�erent bulb typesto prolong the �owering period.

Naturalizing Bulbs

Da�odils, crocus, muscari, scilla, and most other small bulbs are perennial and can be leftin the soil to return for many years. Allow the foliage to die down and add some slow-acting fertilizer when the bulbs emerge from the soil and after �owering.
