KANW Helps Spread TED’s Credby Allison DavisTED (Technology, Entertainment and Design), is a nonprofit devoted to “Ideas Worth Spreading.” KANW airs NPR’s TED Radio Hour every Thursday at 9 am. TED conferences began 30 years ago, and today covers almost all topics – from science to business to global issues – in more than 100 languages. TED talks deal address ideas that apply to a national or global com-munity. TEDx conferences use the same concept and format to focus on ideas that are applicable towards specific communities.Close to 1,800 local “TEDheads” converged on the UNM campus on Sept. 6 for an all-day conference that featured almost 20 LOCAL speakers – students, PhD scientists, comedians, war veterans – who shared their innovative ideas. These ideas ranged from designing DIY solar ovens for the Navajo communities to using photovoltaics to harness the sun’s energy in ways never before imagined to the curative powers of making mu-sic.
