ELECTRIC FORCE

Force – push or pull Contact forces – forces that can have

an effect only on objects they touch Electric forces– push or pull between

charged objects Action-at-a-distance – a force can be

applied without touching an object

LAWS OF STATIC CHARGE

Like charges repel Opposite charges attract Neutral objects are attracted to

charged objects

Charging a neutral object by touching it to a charged object is called charging by conduction 

Charging by induction is when an charged object is brought near another object and while no electrons are actually transferred, they will reposition themselves further away or closer depending on the charge  Charging by induction explains why neutral objects are

attracted to charged ones  Example – a photocopier uses powdered toner to

statically cling to a paper before it’s baked on (see page 261 for all the steps)
