PARTICIPANT INFORMATION STATEMENT FOR CHILD PATIENTS
(Hospital setting)
Patient-Student-Tutor Teaching and Learning Encounters
We would like you to join our study. We want to be sure you know what that means.
Please read this leaflet carefully.
Version 1: 26th April 2011
1. What is the study about?
How to be a good doctor?
How to be a good teacher?
2. What will happen?
We will video (or audio) record you when the doctor and
students come to visit you.
Afterwards the researcher will have a brief chat with you and
your parent/carer about the session.

3. Do I have to take part?
No. It is up to you to decide. The research can STOP
whenever you want. Also your parent/carer must allow you to
take part.
4. How long will it take?
Seeing the doctor (teacher) and the student doctors will take
roughly 20 minutes.
Talking to the researcher with your parent/carer afterwards
about 10 minutes.
5. What will happen to the videos?
When they are used in future your name will be hidden. Also,
the videos won’t be shown to other people.
6. What do I get out of it?
Unfortunately it won’t help you get better now. However, it may help us make
better doctors in the future.
7. What do I do if I have other questions or worries?
A researcher will listen to you and try to answer your questions and solve any problems.

‘Digital’ as data
In small groups discuss:
• Any past, current or potential uses of video in your
research projects
• What has or would video add to the work?
• Any dilemmas or obstacles?
• Alternatively, discuss the limits of video in your
research context.
