About the Author

• My name is Marcus I likeskateboarding, video gamesand playing the drums. I’mwriting about lemursbecause I think they areinteresting and funnylooking. I think this projectwill be a fun experience.

Who am I?

• The lemur is a primate .That means they arerelated to apes andhumans! The lemur hasa body length of anaverage of 20 inchesand the tail by itself isanother 20 inches long!

The Early Years

• Some species of lemurs havelitters of two or more young.Other species such as thering tailed lemur only haveone baby at a time. When ababy is born it latches on toits mom’s belly. It feeds onits mother’s milk. At about 3weeks of age the baby startsriding piggyback. When thelemur is three months old,the mother sends it out toget its own food!

Habitat Sweet Habitat

• Lemurs live in hotforests and live in trees.Although their homesare being destroyed andbeing made into resortsand hotels.

What’s on the Menu?

• A lemur’s diet consistsof bugs , plants, fruitsand small animals. Toget food they use theirclaws and nails. Theyfind their food on thejungle floor and intrees.

Making Tracks

• Most lemurs are arboreal butthe ring tailed lemur spendsmost of its time on theground. The lemur’s fingersand toes all end in nailswhich helps them grasp onto trees and small objects.The second toe of the hindfoot of most of the specieshas a long claw that thelemur uses to comb itself.

Simply Irresistible!

• At least 14 species oflemurs are extinct andabout 30 species remainbut several are on theendangered list.Lemurscommunicate vocallyand through sentmarkings.

Where in the World?

• The only place you canfind lemurs in theirnatural habitat is inMadagascar.The lemur’shabitat is beingdestroyed and theirhomes are beingdemolished.

Did You Know?

• Did you know almost alllemurs live up to 18years. They also havevery keen hearing and agood sense of smell.Lemurs also haveopposable thumbs.
