Philoptochos May 2018 bring to all of youhealth, love and peace.
First, a note of thanks to all those who have made it possible for Philoptochos to have grown into the dynamic chapter that it is. God has truly blessed us.
Our Philoptochos Christmas party was more than successful. The Christmas “Sing Along” was
so much fun there were already requests for a reply next Christmas. Thank you Assumption
Choir members for leading us into the Christmas season.
A special thank you to Bobbie Soupos and her team for again making sure everything was per-
fect.
Once again, we hosted Trinity Foster Homes with over 60 children and their families to a Christ-
mas party that even included Santa. The glow in the eyes of the children were priceless.
Our Lovely Ladies of Philoptochos made holiday visitations to those confined to their homes and
not able to come to church. Thank you to all those who contributed to the Senior Christmas
tree. We were also able to take small tins of cookies to our seniors.
Philoptochos is starting the year and ready to spread it's philanthropy to all in need.
JANUARY & FEBRUARY DATES TO REMEMBER
January 21st. Cutting of the Vasilopita...Vasiloptia coins will be on sale through any Philopto-
chos board member for $15. We are asking all ladies of the community to share their favorite
Vasilopita and bring it on this date. All proceeds received on this day will be sent to Saint
Basil's Academy, Garrison New York. St. Basil's Academy is the only Greek Orthodox licensed
residential child-care institution for Orthodox children in America.
The operations of Philoptochos depends on you and your membership. 2017 we had 136 mem-
bers. Our goal is to have every person in our church community be a member of our chapter.
You can start off the year in the right direction by coming to our membership luncheon on Feb-
ruary 11th in the church hall. It's always an exciting afternoon viewing the many different tables
decorated to the theme. If you are interested in hosting a table please contact Lia Kakaris @
562-773-1778.
We haven't forgotten Go Red Sunday! This year we will combine God Red Sunday with our
membership luncheon! Keep your eye on the upcoming flyer for more information.
February 19th Please be sure to SAVE THE DATE for the Clean Monday's Koulouma at 6 p.m.
Please join us as we prepare ourselves for the Lenten Season.
Once again, Philoptochos wishes that 2018 will bring you health and happiness throughout the
year.

Little Lambs In November and December we made Turkey puppets, Santa’s and Wrapped baby Je-sus in a Manger. Our Christmas party was filled with fun, paint and books. The chil-dren decorated frame ornaments and we had a book exchange, a yearly tradition where the kids bring a wrapped book and get to take another one home. We also took out our bells and sang Christmas carols Classes for January are the 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st. February is to be determined and will be posted through email. We have exciting activities, celebrations and events planned. We encourage all par-ents, grandparents and caretakers to bring children ages 3 and under every Wednes-day, 10:30-11:30. Please email Elizabethsyrengelas@gmail.com to inquire more and to be put on our email list. This is where updated information about classes and event times/dates are posted. Thank you to all the dedicated moms and Yiayia's who bring the children weekly!
Love, Elizabeth Syrengelas

Happy New Year!! I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays. Greek School will be back in full swing on Wednesday, Jan. 17, after the long holiday. NO CLASS on Jan 3rd. Also, NO CLASS on Jan. 10th since most of the students will be getting ready for FDF. Good Luck to all our students at FDF! Tasia Triantos, Principal

Our dancers, directors, parents, and dance board are all working diligently to make our dance year a success! First of all, our one and only fundraiser for the year is com-ing up- NEW YEARS EVE GLENDI!!! We encourage everyone in our community to at-tend and ring in the new year amidst our family and friends! Please contact Yota Bat-saras (714.306.8082) for tickets. I would like to send a special thank you to all our parents, to our directors, and to the AGDCAS Board for your donation of time, talents, and treasures to making this NYE event possible. I thank you immensely and am very proud to be working with such amazing individuals! For our Diakonia project, our dance program helped the islands of Puerto Rico, which were devastated by Hurricane Maria. We donated inflatable solar lights and straw wa-ter filters to the small island of Vieques to give these individuals light and clean drink-ing water. Our community outreach projects remind us of how blessed we are and how we need to extend our blessings to those in need. A huge thank you to Melva Patsios and Giselle Jordanidis for spearheading our Diakonia project this year! Most importantly, we still have FDF coming up! This year our dance groups are on a tight schedule with FDF being moved up to MLK weekend (January 11-15). We also are traveling to San Francisco, which is a change from our typical Southern California lo-cations. Because of this shortened dance year, our dancers and directors are working tirelessly to get their suites prepared for presentation. Our costume librarians are working overtime to get our 130 dancers costumed and ready for the stage. Thank you to Paraskevi June and Elizabeth Syrengelas for spearheading the costume distribution and for all the parents that helped organize and distribute. We wish all our Long Beach groups good luck at FDF and hope you all have fun! I am so proud of each and every dancer and director for all the hard work that is put to-wards our program and your dedication to the preservation of our culture is admired. Love to you all! Wishing you all a blessed 2018,
Stacie Zoumberakis, President AGDCAS
