• Pompeii was built at the foot of the volcano, Mount Vesuvius=> It erupted in 79 ADÞ Many people died by poisonous gases coming from the
volcano, dropped to the ground and died where they lay -> ashes of the volcano fell on them
Þ The whole city was covered in ashes so it’s really well preserved
