Men Over 40: 5 Scary Side

Effects Of Having Excess

Body Fat!

Having excess body fat affects a lot more than your appearance or weight – it actually

increases your risks of having to deal with major health problems as you grow older.

To reduce these health risks, you need

to lose your excess body fat and maintain a healthy body weight

thereafter. Here are the 5 scary side

effects of excess body fat:

Scary Side Effect #1 – DepressionA 2010 study found out that a man can gain weight because he is depressed and he can also become depressed because he is obese

or overweight.

The study (published in the Archives of General Psychiatry) discovered that overtime men who are

obese have a much higher risk (55% more) of developing depression than men of normal weight.

The same study also revealed that depressed men are 58% more at risk

of becoming obese than normal men – so it goes both ways.

Scary Side Effect #2 – Stroke And Heart Disease

In a lot of overweight and obese men, cholesterol levels, hypertension and plaque build-up inside

the arteries all occur at the same time!

Having excess body fat can lead to stroke and heart disease. Hypertension (high blood pressure) is 6 times more prevalent in obese and overweight men than in

lean men!

The American Heart Association states that having 10 kilograms

(22 pounds) of excess body fat translates to

a 24% increase in your chances of getting a

stroke!

A 2007 research study discovered that if you are overweight, your risk of heart disease

increases by 32%, while being obese increases your risk by as much as 81%!

According to a 2010 report, the risk of getting a stroke is 22% higher in overweight men than lean men, for obese men the risk rises to as high as 64%!

Scary Side Effect #3 – Type 2 DiabetesObesity is so strongly connected to type 2 diabetes, medical researchers in the

1970s invented the word “diabesity” to explain this health problem.

The trademark of type 2 diabetes is high blood sugar levels and it is also

one of the characteristics of metabolic syndrome.

Metabolic syndrome (in case you were wondering) is a group of conditions that happen together. Metabolic syndrome increases your risk of diabetes, stroke and

heart disease.

You are likely to have metabolic syndrome if you have at least three of the following conditions:

Big belly – waist is more than 40 inchesLow HDL Level – below 40 mg/dLHigh Triglycerides Level – fasting blood triglyceride level is higher than 149 mg/dLHigh Blood Pressure – your BP is more than 129/84 mm HGHigh Blood Sugar – fasting blood sugar level is more than 99 mg/dL

An effective way to deal with metabolic syndrome is to lose your excess body fat and stay lean and fit while also following a healthy calorie controlled diet.

Scary Side Effect #4 – CancerThe American Cancer Society carried out a research study and discovered a

direct link between excess body fat and different types of cancer.

Here are the findings of that study:

14% of all cancer related deaths of men above 50 years was linked to obesity and being overweight

A higher BMI was linked with an increased risk of dying from cancer of the kidney, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, rectum or colon.

Excess body fat increases your risks of getting prostate or stomach cancer.

Obese men usually don’t detect the signs early enough because screening tests are too much of a hassle for them e.g. prostrate examination is more difficult

when you overweight or obese.

Scary Side Effect #5 – Excess Body Fat Shortens Your Lifespan!Make it one of your top priorities in life to live as healthy and as long as you can!

Since excess body fat plays a big role in the occurrence of a lot of diseases, remaining overweight or obese can reduce how long you have to live.

A research study discovered that there is an increase of 20% to 40% in the death rates of overweight individuals at middle age. While the death rate for obese folks

were 3 times higher than the overweight people!

A different study conducted in 2010 found out that the more body fat that a person has the higher his risk of death increases.

For men that are mildly obese, the risk of death is 44% higher, while for men that are severely obese, it

increases by a whopping 250%!
