Every company faces problems in running variousdepartments and consistently enforcing their

policies. That is why they rely on specialists in theirHR departments to keep staff aligned with

organizational goals, whether it means addressingpersonal conflicts or putting together attractive

benefits packages.

A constant requirement for HR isfinding and onboarding new

employees

Selecting and interviewing candidateswith the right set of skills, personalityand dependability is an involved

process. One can receive dozens, if nothundreds of applicants.

Recruitment

HR managers must have software or systematicprocedures for rapidly narrowing down the fieldof candidates, scheduling, conducting a series of

interviews and checking references.

Promising applications can be retainedin an ATS database should other suitable

positions open. Developing moreefficient recruitment procedures is a

constant demand on HR.

Retention

It’s simply more efficient and cost-effective to retain talent. When

employees leave, the company suffers aloss of productivity.

The average cost of onboarding new employees could beanywhere from 16% to 200% of their annual salary.

Retaining talent often requires a complex plan involvingcompany culture, incentives, opportunity, benefits and pay

rates.

Discipline

Failure to adhere to schedules, unsatisfactoryperformance, drug or alcohol use, a history of

personal conflicts and other poor behaviors requireHR to step in.

HR must retain documentation of unacceptablebehavior, poor performance reviews,

insubordination or other incidents that affect anemployee’s value to the company

In wrongful termination lawsuits, 67 percent aredecided for the employee and out-of-court

settlements average $40,000.

One important challenges in peoplemanagement is ensuring everyemployee is content with their

compensation.

Benefits are an extension of compensation.Employees might be willing to accept a lowersalary for better medical insurance plans, forinstance. Other benefits like vacation time, stock options and so forth can cause an

employee to leave or stay.

When a health & safety incident takes place, HR is responsible for seeing that the business has met its legal

requirements, the proper documentation was kept & everyexpected precaution was taken.

Consistency

The biggest mistake HR can make is showingfavoritism. This could be excessive wages, unique benefits, or choosing to overlookrecurring rule violations. HR must deal withissues fairly and consistently to avoid causing

more serious problems.
