STATE TIMES NEWS BHADARWAH: The record-breaking snowfall onThursday has thrown life outof gear in entire Chenabregion, especially inBhadarwah Valley, whichreceived maximum snowcausing massive power out-ages, traffic disruptions andeven causing widespreaddamage to apple cultivationand other crops in the hillyregion. Entire regionremained powerless sinceWednesday and all the roadsremained closed for the sec-

ond day on Friday.Locals in Bhadarwah town

were up in arms against theadministration, as accordingto them despite improvementin weather, administrationfailed to initiate restorationwork to clear the snow even inthe town itself.

According to reports, entireChenab region receivedrecord breaking snowfall onThursday but BhadarwahValley was the worst hit by theFebruary snowstorm as inBhadarwah town 3.5 feet ofsnow was recorded while in

peripheral areas accumula-tion of snow was even more atSartingal, Bheja, Haliyan,Runta, Manthla, Kansar,Dharmunda, Shankhoja,Laksaru and Hanga 4 feet ofsnow was recorded.Meanwhile 4.5 feet wasreported to have accumulatedat Chinchora, Ghuraka,Trabbi, Thanalla and Basti.

Although weather improvedon Friday morning as Suncame out of the clouds afterthree days of inclementweather but locals allegedthat civil administrationremained in deep slumber asauthorities failed to even initi-ate any type of restorationprocess to resume the essen-tial services including electric-ity, road connectivity, potablewater supply, governmentration and kerosene oildepots.

When contacted by this cor-respondent, ADC BhadarwahDr Ravi Kumar Bhartirefused to answer any of thequeries regarding restorationprocess with a plea that hewill come back with a state-ment soon.

STATE TIMES NEWSUDHAMPUR: With a viewto provide income support toall small and marginal farm-ers under 'Pradhan MantriKisan Samman Nidhi'(PMKSN) scheme, DistrictDevelopment Commissioner,Udhampur Ravinder Kumartoday chaired a meeting ofDistrict Officers of differentdepartments to review effec-tive implementation of thescheme in the district.

A detailed discussion wereheld on various aspectsregarding uploading of bene-ficiaries data, activation ofbeneficiaries accounts,preparation of list of exclu-sive categories, collection ofData and organization ofcamps etc.

While addressing the meet-ing, the DDC said that themain objective of launchingthis scheme is to supplementthe financial needs of thefarmers in procuring variousinputs to ensure proper crophealth and appropriateyields. He said that thefarmers who fall under thiscategory up to 2 hectaresshall be provided benefits of

Rs-6000 per annum perfamily.

DDC directed the officersof concerned departmentsto activate men and machin-ery and to expedite theprocess for effective imple-mentation of this schemes atgrass root level in the dis-trict so that the farmers canavail benefits of thesescheme. In this regard heasked the officers to consti-tute a district as well as Sub-Division level monitoringcommittees to monitor allthe activities. Besides thishe instructed the officers toactivate Zone level teamsalso.

STATE TIMES NEWSRAMBAN: DistrictD e v e l o p m e n tCommissioner (DDC),Ramban Showkat AijazBhat on Friday toured atBatote area to review sta-tus of availability of essen-tial commodities andrestoration of essentialservices besides inspectingsnow, road clearance opera-tions and obtaining publicfeedback from public in thisregard.

DDC was accompanied by

the ADC Dr. BasharatHussain, CMO, Dr. Saif-u-Din Khan, Xen of PDD,and officers of otherdepartments.

DDC took stock of snowand road clearance opera-tions from Batote to patni-top and link roads besidesrestoration of electricityand water supply in affect-ed areas and availability ofessential commodities. Hedirected the concerned offi-cers to restore all linkroads as early as possible.

DDC informed thatrestoration work of water,power and road connectivi-ty was initiated on warfooting after stop of snow-fall in entire district.

He also checked the avail-ability of ration, LPG,kerosene and other itemsand directed the concernedofficers to ensure properdistribution at concerneddepots. DC directedTehsildar to access the lossof locals caused by theheavy snowfall.

He also interacted withthe public at various placesand heard their grievances,besides passing on spotdirections for its redressal.He directed to all officersto stay in their headquar-ters and keep men andmachinery are on high alertin view of the snow predic-tion for the next days.

Later DDC visited Sher-e-Kashmir MemorialEmergency HospitalBatote to assess the qualityof medical services, heatingarrangements, punctuality

of staff and patient care atthe health institute espe-cially during ongoing snowseason. He inspectedwards of the hospital andinteracted with the patientsand checked the availabilityof medicines the medicalfacilities being provided tothe patients in hospital.KISHTWAR: DeputyCommissioner, Kishtwar,Angrez Singh Rana onFridayvisited Kishtwartown and adjoining areas tomonitor the status of essen-tial services and snow clear-ance operations.

During his tour, he visiteddistrict hospital, bus stand,Dak Bunglow, Giri nagarand other adjoining areas ofKishtwar town.

At district hospital, he metpatients and enquired aboutthe well-being. He directedconcerned officers to ensureproper heating system inhospitals as well as theavailability of sufficientmedicines. He directed tokeep the emergency sectionfully equipped and ready to

meet any situation due toheavy snowfall.

He also met public deputa-tion and listened to theirissues and on spot direc-tions were passed to con-cerned officers for promptredressal.

DC impressed upon theofficers to expedite restora-tion of power supply, interand intra district road con-

nectivity including high-ways, drinking water sup-ply, traffic management,

operationalization of ensur-ing adequate stock of essen-tial food items, LPG andKerosene oil etc.

that of 102 electricity feed-

ers, 88 are functional, sevenare non-functional, andseven are partially function-al and work on restoringfeeders is in progress. Itwas informed that men andmachinery have been deput-ed for the restoration ofHT/LT network.

While taking stock ofPHE sector, it was informedthat of 211 water supplyschemes in division Rajouri,only 10 have been affecteddue to incessant rains andsnowfall. In Nowshera sub-division, all the 164 watersupply schemes are runningsmoothly with minor prob-lems like low voltage.

Regarding road connectiv-ity, five roads of PMGSYand eight PWD roads areclosed due to snow accumu-lation. It was said that ade-quate men and machineryare working round-the-clockand roads will be cleared ofsnow by today evening.

While taking stock of foodgrains, it was also apprisedthat sufficient stock of foodgrains is available in the dis-

trict, and the full quota ofthe month has reached atthe respective godowns forfurther distributions to theconsumers.

DDC asked the officers tobe proactive and ensure thatthere are no interruptions inessential services particu-larly food grains water sup-ply, kerosene oil, electricitysupply and clearance ofroads.

All the officers weredirected to remain presentat their respectiveHeadquarters and take pre-cautionary measures to savethe life and property of thepeople residing in avalancheprone areas.
