Laboratory safety guidelines

1. Make sure the names of the chemicals before using them.

2. Do not touch any chemicals, do not taste nor smell them.

3. Make sure that nearby materials non-flammable When using flame.

4. Be cautious with Bunsen burners or open flames – keep flammable substances away from flame.

5. Wearing lab coats, goggles and gloves when using the chemicals.6. Wash hands at end of each laboratory period with soaps and

water.

Laboratory safety guidelines

7. Washing and cleaning the tools then put in their place in the laboratory, clean the bench and your seat before leaving the laboratory.

The required equipments and tools in the plant diseases laboratories

1- Hood cabinet: A room with ultraviolet light to sterilize the

inside, used for isolating the microorganism

1- Equipments

2-Dry oven• work with gas or electric, used for sterilization.• It can use a temperature between 150-180 °C

for 3-5 hours to sterilize of glass and metal tools and drying of samples.

3-Hot plate• Used for drying and heating the solutions which

requires raising the temperature for their preparation such as culture media of organism.

4-A water bath is a laboratory equipment made from a container filled with heated water. It is used to incubate samples in water at a constant temperature over a long period of time for ex. culture media

Refrigerator

5-Balance are devices to measure weight of samples

6-Autoclave is a pressure chamber used to sterilize equipment and supplies by subjecting them to high pressure saturated steam at 121 °C (249°F) for around 15–20 minutes depending on the size of the load and the contents

7-Distilled water is water that has many of its impurities removed like mineral and salt through distillation. Distillation involves boiling the water and then condensing the steam into a clean container.

8- Incubator is a device used to grow and maintain microbiological cultures or cell cultures. The incubator maintains optimal temperature, humidity and other conditions such as the carbon dioxide (CO2) and oxygen content of the atmosphere inside. Incubators are essential for a lot of experimental work in cell biology, microbiology and molecular biology and are used to culture both bacterial as well as eukaryotic cells. The most commonly used temperature both for bacteria37 °C and fungi 25 °C

9-A shaker is a device used in chemistry and biology laboratories to stir liquids.
