4. Check that the answer is reduced: The numerator and denominator should not have any common factors besides 1. When the GCF of the numerator and denominator is 1, the fraction is reduced.

5. Check that the answer is not improper: The numerator must be smaller than the denominator. If the numerator is larger than the denominator, you must change the improper fraction to a mixed number.
