This year we have learned how fiction and nonfiction books are organized in a

library media center. Let’s review ....

Fiction books are organized alphabetically by the author’s last name.

Nonfiction books are organized by number according to the Dewey Decimal system.

Now that we know how our

books are organized in the

media center let’s explore Tiger

Creek’s online catalog or

database called

SURPASS SAFARI.

The purpose of the on-line catalog is to help

us find books and other materials in our Media

Center.

How can we look for books using the Safari on-line

catalog? We can locate a book, using the on-line catalog, by looking it up in one of three ways.

1. Author’s name

Example:

Mary Pope Osborne

2. Title of a book.

Example:

Dragon of the Red Dawn

3. Subject

Example: Dragons

Let’s practice using
