ADVANCES in PEDIATRIC GASTROENTEROLOGY,HEPATOLOGY and NUTRITION 2017COURSE DESCRIPTIONPediatric Gastroenterology is a broad and dynamic field with a rapidly-growing knowledge base. There are very few post-graduate courses that offer a comprehensive educational program in this specialty.
This 2 day course is designed for practicing physicians, nurse practitioners and fellowship trainees in the fields of pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, nutrition, and endoscopy who wish to update their medical knowledge, improve their clinical practice, or prepare for new or repeat credentialing. This course offers a mixture of short topic and mini-board review lectures, and case-based small group discussion sessions for direct interaction between participants and faculty.
LEARNING OBJECTIVESUpon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
WHO SHOULD ATTENDPediatric gastroenterology practitioners and trainees, pediatricians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses and dieticians.
• Evaluate, diagnose and appropriately treat liver diseases that cause neonatal liver failure, complications of bone marrow transplants, or are part of multisystem disorders
• Correctly utilize medications for the treatment of childhood intestinal motility disorders
• Utilize knowledge of normal and abnormal ORL and anorectal anatomy to correctly diagnose and treat associated GI disorders
• Incorporate the most recent information about childhood obesity and food allergies into their care of pediatric patients
• Counsel IBD patients regarding current and emerging therapies, sexual function and fertility
• Recognize dermatologic manifestations of GI disorders
• Choose effective medical, endoscopic, or surgical therapies for treatment of complicated acute and chronic pancreatitis
• Utilize best endoscopy and manometry practices
