A Workshop A Fab Lab (fabrication laboratory) is a small-scale workshop offering digital fabrication. It is generally equipped with an array of flexible computer controlled tools that cover several different length scales and various materials, with the aim to make "almost anything"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fab_lab#External_links
A Culture sharing
open source Fab labs also have the
capability to receive complex instructions in digital form, sent from a faraway place. The design for a sensor developed in Cambridge, Mass., for instance, can be sent to a rural Indian village and produced right there.
collaboration
The Fab Academy is a network rather than a place, with teachers and students in fab labs around the world linked by broadband video, shared online informa(on, and common technical capabili(es.
A Network
blogs, common projects etc
In a fab lab – computer-controlled tools, construction materials, and electronic components can be used to make structures as small as a millionth of a meter and as big as a house.
FaB LaB house, Madrid
The main structure of the house has been fabricated in Germany with large scale CNC Machine, the remaining components of the house such as interior, skin and other elements have been fabricated in the Fab Lab Barcelona. The Fab Lab House is much more than a house fabricated
with CNC Machines, is the result of a team work with people coming from 25 different countries. One team, on project.
Fab labs share core capabilities, so that people and projects can be shared across them. This currently includes: A computer-controlled lasercutter, for press-fit assembly of 3D structures from 2D parts
A larger (4'x8') numerically-controlled milling machine, for making furniture- (and house-) sized parts
A signcutter, to produce printing masks, flexible circuits, and antennas
A precision (micron resolution) milling machine to make three-dimensional molds and surface-mount circuit boards
Programming tools for low-cost high-speed embedded processors [electronics]

Launching a new fab lab requires assembling enough of the hardware and soPware inventory
to be able to share people and projects with other fab labs, pos(ng the Fab Charter to provide context for doing that
Schedule Monday: Closed Tuesday: Open 11:00 am to 7:00 pm Wednesday: Open 11:00 am to 7:00 pm Thursday: Open 11:00 am to 7:00 pm Friday: Open 10:00 am to 2:00 pm Saturday: Closed Sunday: Closed
An MIT Fab Lab is a workshop open to the public where inventors and product developers can get help making prototypes of their inven(ons. APer taking a safety and equipment training class users will have access to a Shopbot CNC milling/rou(ng machine, Epilog Laser cuLer, UPrint 3D printer, Roland vinyl cuLer, laser scanners, and CAD (computer aided design) soPware.
Space and equipment can be seen in the video: hLp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igil4cwWXtM
