CAI: Computer-aided Instruction
• CAI is the same as CBT (Computer-based training)What is CAI?– CAI replaces the teacher or the current learning
environment.– The computer is used as the main method of
‘teaching’ or delivering knowledge.

CAI: Computer-aided Instruction
– The CAI will give a pre-test to the student to determine at what level they should start. In a good CAI package, this assessment is straightforward.
– Navigation is easy for the student.– Games and quizzes make it more enjoyable.– This software also keeps track of the students
progress.

CAL: Computer-aided Learning
• CAL and CBL (Computer-based learning) methods in which the teacher is not replaced but they are used to aid the teacher and to improve the learning experience for the student.
• The teacher controls the learning experience.• CAL or CBL are only introduced after an
assessment of the current teaching methods.• It should be used with textbooks, worksheets +
other media.

CAA: (Computer-aided Assessment)
There are two types of testing:1. Formative: this is when the answers of a
specific question are collected to form a judgement on specific progress.
2. Summative: this is when questions are asked and answers are recorded.
Current situation: candidate’s papers are scanned into a computer system + examiners can log onto the system and then mark the papers on the screen.
