that have the capacity of 21st Century learning.

What is a 21st Century Classroom?

• It is an engaging, technology-enabled environment that is appealing to 21st century learners are available today.

• It provides many opportunities for students to learn using 21st Century Skills, such as; blogging, podcasting, presenting,

• Rapid developments in technology have brought many exciting changes to life in the new millennium, presenting new challenges

Technological Components Used Today

Wilkes County Schools has provided the school infrastructure necessary for 21st Century technology.

• All classrooms have high speed internet access and wireless connectivity;

• Currently all 4th and 5th graders are provided Personal handheld computing devices;

• Currently 600 classrooms are identified as Smart Classrooms (SMART Board, laptop for teacher, and data projector);

• Students in 6th and 7th grades issued mini-laptops; • Students in 11th and 12th grades issued laptops

Why do we need 21st Classrooms?

• Wilkes County saw their graduation rate increase from 63%-73% in a six year span.

• It engages all learners. • Engaged learners results in a higher level of

achievement. • Today’s kids have grown up in a digital world.
