TRADITIONAL BUILDING PIT SUPPORTED BY SHEET PILE WALL
•Insecure method to penetrate through rocky boulderly soil layers = contact to bedrock through moraine
is often hard to achieve
•Outer walls of building must have their own foundations
•Basement walls cannot extend to the boundary of the excavation pit (sheet pile wall requires space)
•Many support levels (struts). Steel bars/dowels are needed for anchoring of the lower end into bedrock
•Problems to control ground water

ACHIEVED BENEFITS • RD-pile wall can be
installed near the excavation boundary and ”in open space” in plot boundary
• Distance of ground water flow increases => amount of water decreases. Water-tight structure as a whole.
• Act as bearing structure (foundations, basement wall, good stiffness)
• External anchoring is not allways needed (for instance upper deck acts as inside strut)
• Penetration of all soil layers
• Contact to bedrock is secured
