Rakumba’s 2020 collections add significantly to our legacy of collaborative design. Building on our series of international collaborations with antipodean-led studios, we add one of Europe’s top designers to our family of collaborators - an exciting milestone in our journey as a design studio. As the year 2020 strongly marks itself in global history, we are pleased to unveil contemporary collections with luxurious nostalgic references. The design of each new luminaire is strongly informed by its underlying narrative. The lights are resolved to a level where simplicity appears effortless - a triumph in complex detailing performed with great care. We look forward to presenting our new product ranges to you personally and to seeing how you choose to use Rakumba’s luminaires in your creative design projects.

SEBASTIAN HERKNER
Sebastian Herkner established his design studio in Offenbach, Germany in 2006. Since that time, he has designed furniture, lighting and products for brands all around the world. Sebastian’s design ethos is driven by quality and function as well as tradition and innovation. His designs are very personal, developed using intuition and instinct, working with brands who share his vision and responsibility for products. Named Maison & Objet’s 2019 Designer of the Year, Sebastian’s works have won numerous accolades – among others the IF Award, the Iconic Award and the Elle Deco International Design Award (EDIDA).

NIKOLAI KOTLARCZYK
The studio of Nikolai Kotlarczyk extends across interior product design - from decorative pieces to more industrial focused work. What unites his work is a geometric sensibility based around the design elements of symmetry and balance, along with references to historical and geographical ingredients – most predominately architectural. Aiming to simplify and present these references in a contemporary way, his work often contains a sense of nostalgia within a style that is refined yet decorative. His studio approaches the importance of sustainability in contemporary design through a combination of quality craftsmanship, durable natural materials, and a unique design language to create work that does not contribute to a throw-away culture.

Studio Truly Truly and Rakumba have designed a lighting system of
exceptional flexibility and purity of form. The system is inspired by the way
characters form words, and how these can be arranged in relationships to
create a language of expression.

Typography’s first collection, CILON, consists of seven different lighting
fixtures, or characters. Each light can be positioned on four sides of the
central axis and can be controlled independently of any other.
Over time lights can be moved to new positions, or new lights and rails can
be added. The design possibilities are almost limitless, delivering technically
complex performance in a seemingly effortless way.
