TECHNOLOGICAL REVOLUTION "The technological advances of the last few decades have produced a genuine revolution in fields such as production, the provision of services, education, communications and interpersonal relations, as well as in the way processes are organised and managed."

(Alberto Romero, Globalización y pobreza)

Some of the reasons that have hindered the spread of ICT to every part of the world are: Lack of knowledge or training: basic knowledge of the functioning of ICT, attitudes and skills. Financial barriers: lack of infrastructure, devices, facilities, etc. Cultural barriers: English as the dominant language is still not spoken or understood by many people. Technical Difficulties: incompatibility of computers and operating systems, speed, etc.

LEARN TO LEARN Today’s society has forged a new concept of education based on "learning to learn", and the teaching-learning process is no longer limited to a certain stage, but continues throughout life.

Mobility Greater mobility. Improved means of

transport. Multicultural knowledge

societies.

New technology is an intrinsic element of it.

New skills and abilities (digital literacy).

Extent and speed of information. The need for a critical

outlook. Immediate global news.

Continuous technological

advancements.

Renewal of knowledge. Need to learn how to learn.

New Learning: anywhere and at any time.

Behaviour

New social, economic and political values.

New behaviour patterns.

Apache OpenOffice Despite the fact that in this topic, the Apache OpenOffice package is explained for reasons of sustainability, it should be noted that currently the Microsoft Office package accounts for more than 80% of installations and that its applications have grown substantially and in closer unison with shared features, such as a common spell checker, OLE data integration and Microsoft’s command sequence language, Visual Basic for Applications. Get acquainted with ICT by learning about these packages, and use them as tools to facilitate the teaching-learning process.

CALC Calc is a spreadsheet, that is to say, a program that enables you to work with numeric and alphanumeric values arranged in tables. There are other similar programs, such as Microsoft Excel. As regards numeric values, it enables you to make tables or lists of items, and for alphanumeric values, it enables you to perform calculations, apply formulas, make graphs, and so on.

WRITER This is a word processor that enables you to create any type of written text, including letters, complete books, faxes, agendas, minutes, and so on. It works in a similar way and has similar features to those of other word processors, such as Microsoft Word.

IMPRESS Impress is a tool that enables you to create multimedia presentations, among other things. It is composed of slides (also known as transparencies) which can include text, images, animation, sounds, and so on. There are other similar programs, such as Microsoft PowerPoint.
