Chair’s welcome
I’m delighted to welcome you to the HWAT Open Studios Trail for 2019. Over 2 week-ends (5 days, in fact!), 33 artists will showcase a wide range of great new artworks in the places where they were created. We are very proud to invite you to our studios and to share our work with you. This year, we are pleased to welcome three new members, one returning artist, a guest studio and a new showcase for four ‘emerging’ artists – each of whom has a unique approach to making art. We are defined by our local geography – but we are certainly not constrained by it. We celebrate a really wide range of subjects, styles and art forms, turning the central Waveney valley into a 15 mile wide gallery for a short while. Unlike county-wide art trails, our nearness to each other means it is entirely possible to visit a good proportion of our studios over the trail weekends. In fact, it is our proud boast that we have always been a ‘cycle friendly trail’. To help guide your plans, you can see a piece of work from each trail artist at The Farmer’s Kitchen at Alburgh for the whole of May. We are also really pleased that our full pre-trail exhibition will be at The Fisher Theatre in Bungay from 21st April to 16th May. Once again, a small sub-group of textile artists will be opening their studios on the day before our first weekend – Friday 17th May – offering the opportunity for a ‘hands on’ experience in their studios. We are very excited to announce that 2019 sees the first year of what we plan to be our ongoing ‘Emerging Artists’ project. This scheme aims to provide a space on the trail for new and emerging artists on their journey as serious artists – showing their work together at The Barn, Holbrook House, Alburgh. We look forward to welcoming you to our studios again. Please note that a small number of studios will remain open on the weekdays in between the Trail weekends. Check each artist’s listing for details. Finally, we are ever grateful for the support of our advertisers and sponsors. Please support them and, like us in HWAT, ‘keep it local’! See you on the trail.
