Warriors around the world, retirees and friends,

It is awesome to have the opportunity to address you all once again. There is not a day that goes by in which I am not thankful to be an AB and part of one of the greatest organizations in the entire world! The holiday season is upon us and there is definitely a lot of mixed emotions in the air as a direct result of the events over the past months! This is the time to reflect on the good times that we have shared with friends, family and Shipmates as well as letting them know how awesome they are and how much we appreciate them despite the many challenges we face.

We understand that there have been several changes over the last few months and I applaud you all for handling them well. The ABMA is a private organization and we (Board of Directors and Senior Leaders) have decided to continue the course and maintain the same superior standards that you all have come to expect and appreciate. The name will not change, the Working Groups will not change and the hard work and dedication provided to all AB’s around the world will not change!

The August 2016 ABMA Working Group was a huge success in San Diego and we were able to submit agenda items that are relevant to us as AB’s and they will definitely help as we continue to defend freedom and democracy around the world. I would like to thank you all for your faithful participation in the workshops and your keen insight on safety and efficiency throughout the Aviation Enterprise. I would also like to thank the vendors that continue to support us and for going above and beyond in their quest to provide the most innovative and user-friendly gear, equipment and valuable accessories.

The Tidewater Chapter is gearing up for an Awesome ABMA Working Group in August 2017. Let’s start planning now and work towards submitting agenda items, AB of the Year packages, Regina P. Mills Leadership Award packages, Scholarship packages as well as Posthumous and Living Legend packages. Start submitting your TAD requests now to ensure proper funding is allocated for this very important event.

You all are doing a wonderful job in your many places around the world. I am very proud to be an AB and help make a positive impact at the command, throughout the Navy and even the world! Thanks and keep up the great work! ONE TEAM…ONE FIGHT!!!

Warriors around the World, I greet you in the name of the Most High! It is that time of year to enjoy the change of seasons as well as food, fun and fellowship. We are truly blessed to serve or have served with so many wonderful and caring Shipmates. Part of our job is to watch out for one another and to provide help when needed. We know that “iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens the countenance of a friend” (Proverbs 27:17). We have several young AB’s that need us during this time of year and I applaud you for seeking out those that may not have adequate leave, transportation or funds to travel. This will set the standard and precedence of our AB faithfulness to support and help one another. We have lost a lot of great Shipmates, mentors and friends over the last year and many of us have heavy hearts while we enter into the Holidays which are normally portrayed as a happy and festive time. Let’s make them all proud to know that they are honored and appreciated for all they have accomplished during their lifetime and we will hold our heads high in admiration and esteemed honor. As we defend freedom and democracy around the world, I challenge you all to continue to lift one another up in prayer and commit a special prayer for our brothers and sisters in harm’s way and currently on watch as well as comfort and peace for the loved ones that they have left behind. Do the right thing and make the right decisions and you will get the right results!!!! Feed the faith and starve the doubt!!! "Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Savior, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever." (Jude 1:24-25)

Greetings Fellow AB’s; I hope this Newsletter is finding you and your family in the very best of health and doing quite well! I must apologize for the delay in getting this newsletter out on the streets! First I must say a heart-felt “Well Done” to the AB’s of the San Diego Chapter for the superb job they did coordinating the 2016 ABMA Professional Working Group in San Diego, California! I had a great time there and everything went very smooth. The Sailors from the host commands were very professional and did an absolutely awesome job! Looking forward to another awesome event in 2018 in San Diego, California. I want to start off by congratulating our 2016 ABMA Living Legend CWO4 (Ret) Douglas L. Chaney.

I would also like to congratulate the Gulf Coast Chapter ABAM for the awesome job putting together the ABMA Spring Jam April 28, 2016 through May 1, 2016 at the Blue Angel Recreation Park in Pensacola, Florida.

Also a congratulations to the Mid-South Chapter ABMA-Millington, Tennessee for the awesome job putting together the 2nd Annual ABMA Summer Jam July 15, 2016 through July 17, 2016 at Navy Lake Recreational Area, Millington, Tennessee.

And last, but not least; Jacksonville ABMA Chapter for the awesome job putting together the ABMA Fall Jam September 29, 2016 through October 02, 2016 at the Grassy Pond Recreation Area at Lake Park, Georgia. I had a great time at all three events and they were all a big success. I know the AB’s of the Tidewater Chapter have been extremely busy getting things ready for next year’s Professional Working Group Conference in Chesapeake, Virginia. They did a superb job in 2015 and I’m sure they will do another awesome job in 2017. The 2017 ABMA Professional Working Group will be August 7, 2017 to August 11, 2017 at “Chesapeake Marriot Hotel” at 725 Woodlake Drive, Chesapeake Virginia, 23320. The phone number for the hotel is (757) 523-1500. The information will be put out on the ABMA website at WWW.ABMA-USN.ORG and will be posted in the ABMA Spring Newsletter. I look forward to seeing everyone there in 2017. I would also like to congratulate CDR Charlie Ardinger as he took over command at CNATTU Norfolk, Virginia on November 3, 2016.

For all ABMA Chapters: Please forward me a list of all your officers and their contact information including address, phone number and email address whenever you have your elections. You can contact me at (619) 578-1523 or email thunderdjt@gmail.com . Also I will need a copy of your chapter’s By-Laws, if I do not already have them and if you make any changes to your By-Laws. If you’re not sure if I have the information on your chapter, please feel free to contact me. Thank you! Let’s continue to bring in the junior AB’s and get them involved. Keep your head on a swivel and stay safe! Have a very safe and enjoyable holiday season! God bless each and every one of you and may God bless America! ARRIVE ALIVE-DON’T TEXT AND DRIVE

Hello all,

It is with a heavy heart that I sit here and write to you all. I am still shocked and saddened by the loss of Tim Dodson. Each year we lose another AB and with that being said, if you haven’t spoken or seen a fellow shipmate in a while, please reach out and call them. You never know when our time is up.

Now for some cheerier news. I want to personally thank all the vendors who made the working conference such a huge success. Without our vendors there would be no working conference. This year we had two new vendors; Sonoran Desert Institute and a young entrepreneur Joshua Hazelwood who designed his own illuminated director’s gloves. Remember our vendors when you are purchasing items for your command.

On the financial side of the house, we are doing good, but our scholarship fund could use a little push. So if you are looking for an end of year tax donation, please consider donating to our scholarship fund. Finally I’d like to wish everyone a Happy Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, and a Merry Christmas.

Respectfully,

ABHC (AW/SW) (Ret) Michelle Petersen

The Evening Prayer

I am convinced, Our Father, that your fondest feelings are reserved for the least pretentious and most genuine of us.

I am sure that Aviation Boatswain’s Mates are some of your favorites. Certainly Aviation Boatswain’s Mates have yet to find the virtues of humility, or soft-

spokenness or gentleness… They do lead with their jaws….

And they always seem to be more ready to fight than to switch. They can be singled out by their red eyes,

and by a grubbiness which is a mark of their trade. But their wills match their strong backs...

And their love of each other is a wondrous thing to behold. They are the salt of the deck…

And the saltiness is honest and open… And they are uniquely Your sons & daughters. We are grateful for them…

As you love them specially, we mark them particularly tonight. Bless them every one…

And forever keep them from harm and hurt… In Christ’s name, Amen.

R. W. Bedingfield, Chaplain (USN)
