! Environmental Handling Fees (EHF) are charged on the sale and distribution of new electronics regulated in Ontario. Paid at the time of purchase, the fee reflects the program cost to collect, transport and responsibly recycle each electronic at the end of its useful life.
When you purchase electronics, these fees cover the cost for making sure the electronics that no longer work or are out-of-use don’t just end up in a landfill, but are safely and responsibly managed for both the valuable components they contain, as well as the substances of concern.
!
Unwanted electronics should never end up in landfills or in your garbage bag. Most of the parts – steel, glass, copper, aluminum, plastics and precious metals, can be recovered and made into new products. Also, electronic equipment like computers, printers, and televisions can be reused, further cutting down on waste.

DROP-OFF SCHEDULE
Curbside Limits & Setout
GARBAGE COLLECTION
Ensure your material is at the curb no later than 8:00 am on your scheduled collection day.
Garbage must be secured in a solid coloured standard sized garbage bag. (No loose material)Maximum weight (including can) must not be more than 55lbs. (25kg)Only standard sized household garbage bags will be collected. Oversized bags cannot be collected.Avoid putting bags at the curb without containment. Use a garbage can or roadside bin.
CURBSIDE GARBAGE LIMITSResidents in the Green Bin area: 2 bags of garbage weekly (4 during the bi-weekly schedule)Residents in the Rural Area: 3 bags of garbage weekly (6 during the bi-weekly schedule)
Garbage must be contained to prevent messes from animals. Because of unforseen delays or breakdowns, trucks may be collecting until 8:00pm. It is the responsibility of the resident to properly contain the material at their curbside. If a mess occurs at the curb prior to the truck’s arrival, it cannot be collected. Residents are responsible for clean-up of messes and litter on their property.
!
!Remember, if you will not be home on collection day, residents may bring 3 bags of household garbage to any Landfill or Transfer Station in Muskoka.
Smaller bags (white kitchen bags) should be placed either inside black garbage bags or secured in garbage cans. Please do not place these small bags loose at the curb or inside of roadside bins.
If using a roadside animal resistant bin for your garbage, please ensure it is positioned no more than 5 meters from the travelled roadway, beside your driveway.
TIPS
INCLIMATE WEATHER
In the event of hazardous road conditions due to weather in the
winter months, cancelling collection may be necessary in
the interest of safety.
Collection may be rescheduled to the following Saturday for
affected areas. Please tune into local radio for an official
notification, visit www.muskokarecycles.ca
or follow Muskoka Recycles’ updates on Twitter and
Facebook.
If an entire garbage collection day is cancelled, it will be
collected the following Saturday morning beginning at 8:00 am.
RECYCLING COLLECTIONResidents may use Blue Boxes or Clear/Transparent recycling bags. Recycling must be sorted and rinsed to ensure collection. Mixed recycling cannot be collected. (See page 2 for sorting guide)
Don’t overload your Blue Boxes. Maximum weight cannot exceed 55lbs. (25kg)
Recycling soiled with food waste will be left behind. This will contaminate other recyclables.
CURBSIDE RECYCLING LIMITSUnlimited sorted residential recycling weekly
Stack your Blue Boxes ontop of one another at the curb. This will assist in ensuring material does not blow away.Blue Boxes must be visible to the driver. Only sorted transparent bags can be collected from roadside bins.Recycling doesn’t just happen in the kitchen. Don’t trash your and shampoo bottles and toilet paper rolls just because they’re in the bathroom.
TIPS
!There are different curbside setout rules for Commercial Establishments. Please call the District of Muskoka directly (705-645-6764)to inquire about curbside availability and limits for business properties.
GREEN BIN COLLECTIONMaximum weight (including bin) must not be more than 55lbs. (25kg)Green Bins should be placed beside garbage containers and Blue Boxes, visible to the driver. Green Bins placed inside animal resistant bins/roadside containers cannot be collected.Muskoka’s Green Bin program is available to residential households in service areas only.
6
TIPSUsing compostable liners reduces odours and helps to keep your bin clean.
Always use your Green Bin (no other container) for collection.
Green Bins do not have to be full to be collected - set them out each week.
