DESERT MOUNTAIN PHYSICAL EDUCATION

• Mrs. Maas

Introductions

Students will be given two grades.

The first is an Achievement grade which includes their participation and learning in P. E...

The second is a Citizenship grade which includes their behavior and attitude towards teachers, classmates, and equipment.

Grades for Achievement and Citizenship are as follows:

-E (excellent)

-S (satisfactory)

-I (improving)

-N (needs improvement)

-U (unsatisfactory)

Grading Scale

Students should wear comfortable clothing on PE days. If you wear a Dress or skirt you will have to sit out, unless you have shorts on also.

Students must have athletic/tennis shoes with non marking soles. Students will not be able to participate in P.E. with sandals, boots, or shoes with any heels.

If you don’t have the correct shoes and can’t participate you lose all of your points for the day (5 points)

You can always wear non PE shoes to school and change into your PE shoes BEFORE class.

Proper Dress

Students will be encouraged to participate fully in all of the activities we will be doing.

Our emphasis with the 1st through 5th grades is on skill instruction. A student struggling with an activity is looked upon as an opportunity for learning for that child. We will encourage your child to keep trying as we teach them.

We will provide task variation which should accommodate all skill levels. If he or she sits out, he or she is not learning.

We stress the importance of parents and guardians encouraging their children to keep trying even when the task is challenging.

PARTICIPATION

• 1 day: Written excuses from the parent. (Parents may be called for verification)

• 2-5 days: A written note from the nurse stating reason for excuse.

• Longer than 5 days: Written excuse from your doctor stating problem and how long you will possibly be out.

EXCUSES FROM PE
