PERIMETER TRAFFIC
OPERATIONS PROGRAM - PTOP
14
3 year program funded by a $3 million GDOT
grant.
Represents a partnership between PCIDs and the
cities of Sandy Springs, Dunwoody and
Brookhaven and the counties of DeKalb and
Fulton. Includes the synchronization of 99 traffic signals
along major, arterial corridors within and
adjacent to the PCIDs to improve traffic
congestion in the Perimeter business district.
Together with the Ashford Dunwoody DDI and
the Hammond Half-Diamond Interchange, PTOP
helps to mitigate traffic and positively impact
commute times.
The new timing plans pay for themselves
approximately every 3.9 workdays.

allow the PCIDs to:
Expand the fiber optic network within the
district
Expand camera coverage in the district
Collect real-time travel data (travel speeds
and trip times)
Add signal engineers to react to accident
and congestion from a monitoring center
Monitor the signals and cameras from
within the district more effectively Explore adaptive/reactive infrastructure
Explore priority signalization (busses,
shuttles and circulators)

PCIDs Traffic Officer Program PCIDs annual budget for traffic officers is
$680K
Off-duty DeKalb County, Dunwoody, Sandy
Springs and Fulton County officers direct
traffic at up to thirteen (8 - Sandy Springs
and 5 - Dunwoody) intersections of the
Perimeter Business District during high-
peak traffic times to help motorists travel
safely and with ease.
Traffic officers keep intersections clear and
do not specifically direct traffic against the
synchronized signal timing.
The traffic officers work with our signal
timing engineers and regularly
communicate back and forth as theynotice issues in the district.
The main concern is safety with this
program.
The traffic officer program continues to
grow as the needs of the area expand
and it is very important to us that our
workers, residents and visitors make it to
their destination without incident.

businesses directly to MARTA railstations during peak commuting
times.
A previous study titled Perimeter
Circulator Implementation, dated
October 18, 2012, conducted a
high level public survey toquantify demand for circulator

current utilitarian drainage facility and
underused land under MARTA adjacent to
Perimeter Mall into a focal point.
PCIDs vision with this project is to create
sustainable public green space and a signature
urban park within the central Perimeter area.
The park will play a vital role in the areas shift
towards becoming a 24 hour market with true

September 17, 2013 ARC funds the PCIDs
Commuter Trails design phase for full
funding of $500,000.00.
This funding is to design the top four trails
through GDOTs Plan Development Process and get them in a shovel-ready
status. PCIDs strategy is to identify traditional grant funding opportunities in the
future which will require PCIDs to put matching funds into the construction
phase of the project.
The PCIDs Commuter Trails system master plan outlines positive impacts to:
o The businesses located within PCIDs boundaries
o Transportation options by improving bicycle and pedestrian access toMARTA
o Mobility for non-motorized users within Perimeter.
o Commuter trips by increasing the utility of MARTA for Perimeter
workers and residents
o The commercial businesses within PCIDs boundaries

Bicycle Implementation Strategy
2014 LCI Grant to PCIDs of $100,000
PCIDs is leading the advocacy for bicycle
options as a business model of successful
commercial centers.
Bringing the private sector to the table to
understand the interplay of each marketsector with the emerging trends towards
active lifestyles, live/work/play districts
and lifelong communities.
This strategy will be the blue-print of how
we make the PCIDs a truly bike accessible
market for those who wish to chose thismode.
