project on whether materials rot or remain.

Waratah Special Developmental School Satellite Classes Students get involved

in many different garden experiences:

Identifying where the patch lies and

developing sensory needs like feeling the

dirt, plants and water.

Studying life cycles.

Cutting plants from the ground, chopping and adding to dishes

they cook each Friday.

Environmental Committee AwardEach week the class with the cleanest yard duty area wins this glittery award. Students developed this initiative to help improve the cleanliness of our school grounds.

WORKING BEES Brunswick South West Primary School have quarterly working bees. The community comes together to help

maintain our wonderful school grounds, buildings and kitchen garden.

Golden Garden Trophy Award The class with the most parents at the working bee win a fun activity in the garden or cooking with produce from the garden. Activities have included

cooking peach cake, creating signs and planting strawberries and raspberries.

Friday morning parent gardening groupParents are encouraged to come in and work in the kitchen garden and

school grounds on Friday mornings from 9-11am. This volunteer activity builds a sense of community and ownership towards our school garden and

grounds.

Planting Native Trees

Re-use and recycle initiatives

Students collect food scraps from their classes and deposit into the garden’s worm farms.

We are reusing air conditioner straw lined

pads for strawberry patches.

Every student participated in planting 500 native and local trees and grasses on the embankment at the back of our school oval.

Some of the special features at our school include: The amazing mosaic kitchen garden sign, the construction of espaliered

trees and pea tunnels.

New playground facilitiesThe retaining wall around the junior school

playground was replaced by money raised from the school Fete!

OUR WONDERFUL SCHOOL GROUNDSThe pictures below show just a few of the fantastic facilities we have

at our school.The playground bridge, colourful lattice, garden noticeboard, circular seating around the featured White Mulberry tree, class planter boxes

and mosaic playground seating.

Games in the Kitchen Garden Everyone is invited to come and join in some games after school (3.30pm onward) on Friday in the Kitchen Garden. There will be quoits, hookie, hopscotch, tennis, t-ball, maybe some tennis-racquet cricket, and any other games people would like to bring along. Afternoon snacks of dips (made from what is doing well in the garden), Turkish bread and fruit will be provided to keep the kids energy up for running around. Tea and coffee will also be available. Any home baked goodies as additional contributions would be most welcome! The garden is looking great, so many things flowering and growing! Please come and enjoy the view and company of other Brunswick South West Primary Schoolers.
