Wednesday, October 10 – 12:00 noon – 4:00pm

Like Art? Love tapping into your Creative Muse? Then join us at this year’s Arts Experience.

This will be a hands-on creative art’s event. Join us for a fun-filled afternoon of various art forms from Pillow-Case drawing to SoulCollage and a multitude of other fun activities.

No pre-registration needed, just drop by and join in. We will be easy to find and signs will be posted.

Peer Connect Orientation

Wednesday, October 10 – 5:00 -6:00pm

The Peer Connect Committee will be hosting the Peer Connect Orientation (formerly Newcomer Orientation).

Every attendee is invited to attend this engaging and informative gathering. This orientation will provide information on the conference in addition to peer connecting activities.

This true story of Elizabeth’s harrowing journey down the rabbit hole of misdiagnosis and medication is a fearless, unsentimental, and often hilarious testament to our ability to find ourselves, even in the darkest conditions.

Open Mic Night

“Open Mic” and Ice Cream SocialThe most FUN event of the Conference!

Sign-up begins at 8:30 p.m.

Individuals and groups are invited to perform, preferably on topics related to recovery, wellness, mental health and social justice (limited to five minutes, unless your performance inspires a standing ovation!).

All types of performances are encouraged: dance, song, poetry, narrative, monologues (timed, please) and those hard-to-categorize “quirky” acts.

The NAMI STAR Center is excited to be hosting the Multicultural Room at the 2012 Alternatives conference in Portland, OR.  The STAR Center is working closely with Mental Health America of Oregon’s PEERLINK to provide multicultural workshops and a space for consumers from underserved communities to meet, network, and share their stories of recovery. 

Various cultural activities and workshops will be presented. An agenda will be released soon.

Available 24 hours during the conference for crisis

support . Peer support specialists will be staffing the

private suite.

Available various hours throughout the conference.

This room will be hosted by the Transition Age Youth group.

ASL / Deaf – Hard of Hearing

d Conference-Wide

American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters will be provided throughout the Conference for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing community.

There will also be opportunities for everyone to learn about and connect with the ASL community.
