Only members in good standing who were also members during the 2011-2012 campaign year are eligible.

New members for 2012-2013 will be eligible to apply for funding during the 2013-2014 grant cycle, pending successful completion of the membership eligibility process and acceptance.

Application ProcessSubmission of a Letter of Intent (LOI) does not guarantee funding

Step 1 Review United Way NCA’s Notice of Funds Available (NOFA) and assess your organization’s alignment with our funding guidelines for impact areas and priorities.

Step 2 Complete and submit the online LOI form no later than 5 pm, July 27, 2012. See “Applying for Grant” on United Way NCA’s For Member Non-Profit webpage.

Step 3 Participate in the NOFA and LOI webinar on June 19, 2012 ; participants will have the option of choosing either a 10:00 am or a 2:00 pm session.

Step 4 Participate in an application technical assistance training webinar on September 5, 2012: Participants may choose from either a 10:00 am or 2:00 pm timeslot. Participation is mandatory.

Step 5 Application period opens September 4 and closes September 21, 2012 5pm

Health• Promoting Healthy Lives: Increasing information and access to health services;

nutrition and wellness; support services and groups; counseling and crisis intervention; mental health care

• Eliminating Hunger: Food assistance for individuals and families

• Preventing Individual and Family Violence: Empowering victims of bullying and violence; domestic violence shelters

Education

• Strengthening Families: Family and child advocacy; legal assistance

• Building Independence: Literacy and learning programs

• Supporting Early Education: Affordable child care; early childhood education; out-of-school time support; parent support

• Supporting College and Career Success: College readiness and success programs; mentoring; workforce development

Financial Stability

• Assisting People with Disabilities: Services for children and adults with disabilities

• Sheltering our Neighbors: Shelter for children and families; homelessness services; affordable housing initiatives

• Promoting Self-Sufficiency: Emergency services, including rental and energy assistance; life skills and job training; financial literacy

• Serving our Seniors: Senior services; including legal services

Funding Guidelines and Terms

Funding for programs in any of the eight (8) jurisdictions in United Way of NCA’s footprint- Alexandria, Arlington, District of Columbia, Fairfax/Falls Church, Loudoun, Montgomery, Prince George’s, Prince William Counties may be requested in the amounts of no less than $7,500 and up to $25,000.

Funding Guidelines and Terms Programs must align with the funding priorities specified in the NOFA.

Organizations must choose one funding priority only for each program for which they are seeking funding. Organizations cannot receive multiple grants for the same program by applying under more than one impact area or funding priority.

Organizations may apply for multiple grants for the same program by applying in multiple jurisdictions.

Organizations may apply for more than one grant for separate and discrete programs, but only one per impact area- Education, Financial Stability, or Health.

Organizations may apply for funds to start a new program or for the expansion of an existing program.

• To submit a LOI, click on the Letter of Intent link that appears on the Community Impact Grants page.

• Letter of Intent to Apply for a Grant page will appear.• Complete boxes as indicated.• Enter dollar amount requested without commas. For example, if

your funding request is for $15,000 you will enter 15000. • Select one Impact Area /Funding Priority. • Select one jurisdiction for program funding.• A separate LOI must be submitted if you are requesting funding for

your program in more than one jurisdiction.
