This biannual event

was started when Rob

McMillan was taking

his EIT exam in The

Sacramento test site

(Cal Expo).

Opportunities for a

quick lunch were not

readily available in the

time frame given. He

had the idea that the

Did you know about

exam? Did you know

about CLSA’s mission

the first time you

took the LS exam?

What was it that

introduced us to this

great organization?

Some point to their

mentors, others to

scholarships, and

lately even to CLSA

participation in

Trig*Star. Over the

last several years,

many can say they

were introduced to

CLSA over a free

lunch provided by the

Lunch continued... Chapter could do

something to make

a difference. It

was an easy “sell” to

the Chapter since

everyone

immediately knew

the need. Being

able to take off

just a little

pressure,

Sacramento

Chapter decided to

be there to provide

a well needed

respite.

This April

Sacramento

Chapter CLSA

members Annette

Lockhart, Bill

Telling, Roy Olson,

Dave Mello and Rob

McMillan teamed up

to feed the

surveying

candidates at Cal

Expo. On Friday,

they provided

lunchtime

sandwiches, chips

and drinks to those

taking the NCEES

Professional

Surveyor (PS)

Examination, and

they did the same

on Saturday April

9th for the

Fundamentals of

Surveying (FS)

candidates. What a

great example of

sharing the

benefits and

camaraderie of

CLSA.

F O C A L P O I N T

The Chapter would like to acknowledge a little help

from our friends who assist in making this happen:

BPELSG staff Ric, Debbie, and Jennifer, Board

members, and, of course, the proctors.

Central Valley Chapter for monetary support.

Sacramento Chapter members for continued

support

This is TrigStar at my high school

(ElCamino High School) in Sacramento. It

is a small turnout by some standards, but it

is great to me because every year I see

more kids. This year I was accompanied by

Sherry Toutges, PLS.

Above are students

during the exam and to

the right are the

teachers that make our

visit possible.

April Chapter meeting: Attendance was about 30. The meeting featured a

US Bureau of Reclamation (BoR) Two for One show. Mark Morberg, PLS, of

BoR presented an overview of the BoR system in the Southwestern US,

especially our Central Valley project. Dave Mello, PLS, formerly of BoR now

with the US Fish and Wildlife Service, described innovative control ideas

and surveying techniques used on the new Folsom Dam spillway construction

project. Using laser scanners to monitor construction progress and map the

geologic fractures in the exposed rock surface allowed the project to move

quickly, get Geotechnical reviews accomplished in a timely and efficient

manner, and not cause delay claims.

The Chapter business portion of the meeting included the request for

Chapter member review of the CLSA Strategic Plan and comments to be

returned via e-mail to our Board Reps prior to the April 30th Board

meeting. No comments were recieved. The future El Camino High School

survey is still on hold. They need to raise money for construction, and it is

slow going in this economy. We are in the final

stages of revisions to our by-laws. Bill is going over

the checklist with the CLSA By-Laws Chair.

Our PPC has cases under review, the LS Exam

review classes are over, and we are checking local

interest in holding a fall LSIT Exam review class.

E-mail Workshop@sac-surveyors.org with your

suggestions. We would also like to have Dave

Wooley, PLS present a
