Concern over re-integration in society.

(1944-1956) over 8 million students in college.

(1946) Employment Act passed.

Economic Troubles

Economy shifts back to consumer goods. Americans spend money they saved during

the war. U.S. Farms increase exports to feed starving

Europe/Japan.

Economic Troubles

Veterans given preference in jobs FEPC abolished.

No more protection for African-Americans in war industries.

Women encouraged to quit. Why?

Economic Troubles Wartime Price controls

lifted. Prices soar! Why?

Wartime restrictions on strikes lifted.

Over 5 million strike in 1946.

Taft-Hartley Act Allowed judges to

end some strikes.

Truman advocated an expansion of New Deal programs.

Called it “Fair Deal” Full employment, National Healthcare Affordable housing More welfare benefits.
