OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT 1) Create a standardized assessment

protocol to identify youth with brain injury.

2) Study the prevalence of brain injury among youth committed to the DJJ.

Other Perinatal Trauma - 11%

NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING

Clinician Conclusion that Testing was Suggestive of Brain Injury

35.7% of youth tested

TESTING SUGGESTIVE OF BRAIN INJURY AND… Medical Record Indicates History of:

Hypoxia - 28.6%

Prenatal Drug/Alcohol Exposure - 43.7%

Other Perinatal Trauma - 44.8%

INSTITUTIONAL BEHAVIORAL CORRELATES

Positive Findings for Both Testing Indicators Suggestive of Brain Injury and/or Prenatal Drug/Alcohol Exposure were Positively Correlated With Higher Rates of Institutional Offenses
