Tree Pit Detail1 Location: Soft Landscape Areas not to scale

Rootball of tree. Remove all

non-biodegradable packaging.

To relieve any compaction the walls and

base of each pit should be loosened (prior

to backfilling) using a hand fork for

instance. The base should be broken up to

a minimum of 250mm depth.

Once backfilling is complete the tree is to

be staked as follows: 3no.round timber

stakes, peeled of bark, straight in length

and free of snags, pests end diseases. Top

diameter 50-75mm, length 2m. Driven

down the side of the rootball and into the

pit to a depth of 500mm below the bottom

of the pit.

The stakes shall be angled outwards to

between 5° and 10° at the top and pulled in

moderately by tensioning all the supporting

bands equally. The stakes should be equally

spaced and not pass through the rootball.

Canvas or nylon/PVC tubing

200

Base of pit 200mm depth layer of 5-10mm

gravel (non calcareous), to facilitate

drainage and placed as a single layer during

construction. Pit backfilled with imported

topsoil to BS 3882:2007 Multipurpose grade.

One third

clear stem

heightapprox.

Planting level to be where

stem thickens to root collar.

400

Topsoil

Subsoil

400mm depth subsoil shall be placed on the

gravel in two 200mm layers after firming with

an excavator bucket (or similar implement). The

rootball of the tree to sit on this layer.

300mm depth fertile free draining site won topsoil. During

tree pit construction, the topsoil shall be placed ensuring

contact with the rootball and elimination of air pockets.

The topsoil shall be firmed as backfilling proceeds, taking

care not to damage the rootball and heeling in around the

root collar.

1.2 Drawing to be read in conjunction with drawing and documents;OCF/TCP/09/16/01 Tree Constraints PlanOCF/OL/TPP/09/16/01 Tree Protection PlanArboricultural Impact Assessment by Shields Arboricultural Consultancy

1.3 All planting shall be undertaken in accordance with BS4428. Plants shall be supplied inaccordance with the national plant specification.

1.4 Labelling and information to be in accordance with BS3936.

2.0 EXISTING VEGETATION

2.1 All existing vegetation to be protected by fencing during construction works in accordance withBS5837:2012 Trees in Relation to Design, Demolition and Construction - Recommendations andthe Arboricultural Impact Assessment report .

2.2 No topsoil stripping, lowering or raising of levels of any description is to occur within the rootprotection area of retained trees.

3.0 PLANTING

3.1 All approved proposed species shall be true to type.3.2 Native hedge mix to be planted in single species groups of minimum 5 no.3.3 All planting to be watered thoroughly prior to and following planting.3.4 Bareroot and containerised shrub stock pit size to be 300 x 300 x 300mm with the base of the pit

broken up to 75mm depth.3.5 During cultivation multipurpose compost to 50mm depth to be incorporated to all shrub and tree

planting areas.3.6 All hedgerow plants to be protected by transparent spiral shelters 600mm high supported by a

cane or with a shelter appropriate to the plant stock.3.7 All trees in soft landscaped areas to be planted and staked in accordance with plan tree pit detail.

4.0 MULCH

4.1 All trees to be mulched over at 0.5m radius around the tree stem using medium grade barkmulch laid to a depth of 75mm.

5.0 GRASSLAND AREA

5.1 When topsoil is reasonably dry and workable, grade to smooth, flowing contours removing allminor hollows and ridges.

5.2 Apply approved herbicide to control perennial weeds and allow period of time to elapse asrecommended by manufacturer before final cultivation.

5.3 Apply proprietary fertiliser. Reduce top 25mm topsoil to a fine tilth by further cultivation.Remove stones exceeding 50mm in any dimension.

5.4 Sow with an amenity grass seed mix using species for quick establishment, such as Emorsgate

EG22 composed of 10% highland bent grass, 50% slender-creeping red fescue, 20% dwarf

perennial ryegrass and 20% smooth stalked meadow-grass will be sown at a rate of 25g/m².

6.0 GRASSLAND AREAS: ESTABLISHMENT CUT

6.1 Water all grass areas to maintain healthy growth.

6.2 When grass is 50mm high remove debris, litter and any stones. Later in dry conditions cut grassto between 25-30mm.

7.0 MAINTENANCE

7.1 Maintenance shall include watering, making good 100% defective planting and all horticulturaloperations necessary for successful establishment including weed control.

7.2 Hedgerow base and a 300mm width strip on either side of the hedge plants shall be kept clear ofweeds by herbicide treatment or hand weeding.

7.3 500mm radius circle around the trees shall be kept weed free by applying a translocatedherbicide or hand weeding.

LANDSCAPE PROPOSALS:

The proposed expansion of the Oxton Composting Facility includes a scheme of landscaping

and mitigation. Proposals include the extension of the existing approximately 3m high

grassed screen bund along the site's western boundary to provide screening of the proposed

aerated windrow piles at the northern part of the site. Further 1.6m high grassed bunds are

proposed by the proposed site access road to assist with visual screening of traffic

movement from within the local landscape.

Double staggered hedgerow planting and tree planting is proposed alongside the new

access road to provide integration of the expansion proposals within the landscape and

further softening/screening of traffic movement and operations on the proposed road and

weighbridge area.

Hedgerow planting comprises species characteristic of the local landscape and identified as

suitable for planting within the Sherwood Regional Landscape Character Assessment.

Individual oak trees are proposed within the scheme to complement those featuring within

the local agricultural landscape .
