January 2017
Can you believe another year has gone by? Oh,
where does the time go? When we think of time, we
wonder about our future. As a church, we wonder the
same thing. Where will we be in one year, 5 years, 10
years or more? It all comes down to we don’t know,
BUT what we do know is that we need to have trust in
our past.
The past of the Presbyterian Church in Lewiston is
rich and has been here since the late 1800s. So the old
saying goes “History repeats itself”. With that being
said, rest assured, we are here. We aren’t going anywhere and our door is
open. Jesus is Alive in our church and we are doing great things in His
Name. We are family and the welcome mat has been set out for you! Come!
(Plus, our sidewalks are shoveled).
Happy New Year!

Dear Church Family,
As we prepare for McLane Stone
to join our church staff, many have
asked about his position and ordination
status. So, let me share with you about
McLane’s journey toward ordination as
a pastor and how that journey will con-
tinue as a member of our staff.
This past fall, McLane and his
wife Charley lived in Spokane while
McLane participated in a Clinical Pastoral Education program at a Spokane Hospi-
tal. This program, which is similar to a hospital chaplaincy, is a requirement that
McLane had to meet before he can become ordained. He completed the program
on December 16. In addition to the Clinical Pastoral Education requirement,
McLane also took and passed four separate ordination examinations in October.
He has now completed the final phase of his training to become an ordained pastor
in the Presbyterian Church.
During the past three years, McLane has been under the care of the Prepara-
tion for Ministry Committee of the Presbytery of the Inland Northwest (the north-
ern Idaho/eastern Washington regional group of Presbyterian churches of which
ours is a member). This committee has shepherded McLane through the process
of becoming ordained, a process which is nearly complete. They will meet with
McLane early in 2017 to officially approve him ready to receive a call as a pastor
of a local congregation. Then, on February 16, McLane will come before the en-
tire Presbytery at a meeting in Spokane where he will be examined and they will
vote to approve him for ordination, pending a particular church’s call. Approved
by the Presbytery in February, McLane will now be ready to be called by us. On a
Sunday morning (the date is still to be determined) he will preach in both our ser-
vices, and at 12:00noon a meeting of the congregation will be held in our Sanctu-
ary where we will vote to call him as our Associate Pastor. Once called, the Pres-
bytery will ordain McLane and install him as our Associate Pastor at a Service of
Worship on a Sunday afternoon in our Sanctuary, probably sometime in March.
Then he will officially be our Associate Pastor for Youth and Congregational Life.
In the meantime, McLane will begin serving full-time on our staff on Tues-
day, January 3 as Director of Youth and Congregational Life. He and Charley
have purchased a home in Lewiston, and their first Sunday with us will be January
8 when we hope you will be able to join us in worship as we give them a rousing
Congregational-Presbyterian Church WELCOME!
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Steve

THANK YOU,
THANK YOU,
THANK YOU,
for the wonderful gift
of diapers! I’m not
sure you know what a ministry tool these
diapers are. Every club, moms get one days
worth of diapers to take home, many of them
struggle to pay for diapers. Also, we use them
as an “excuse” to pop by a mom’s house to
have face to face contact with them. They
also will be delivered in 25 Christmas Baskets
this year. They truly are a big part in helping
us connect with and love our moms. Also,
your facility has been such a gift to us. It may
sound silly, but just the ability to store some
totes there has made my life so much easier
each week! We are so blessed to have you in
our corner cheering us on!
Much Love,
