Bookweek Parade/Literacy-Numeracy Week/Open Classrooms
Next Thursday 8th
September at 9a.m. we will be holding our annual Bookweek Parade. It is also a
celebration of Literacy and Numeracy and we will be having open classrooms after the parade where you
are very welcome to come and see your student’s work and classroom displays.
Robotics Workshop
This week both the 5/6 and 3/4 classes enjoyed whole-day robotics workshops with Vanessa Eden (a
secondary science teacher). This workshop was all about ‘coding’ (the instructions in computer
programing). I would encourage you to talk about this with the students from these classes. It is very
exciting.
Father’s Day
We had a terrific day yesterday to celebrate father’s day with a BBQ and Volleyball game. Thank you so
much for coming along – it means so much to our kids. Fathers and grandfathers were also treated to our
Robotics workout in the senior room. I would like to wish you all a very happy father’s day on Sunday. I
hope you are looked after very well by your wonderful families.
Performing Arts Festival
Our students performed amazingly – I hope you were able to see it. Congratulations to each and every
student and I would like to thank all of those parents/carers who encouraged and supported their children
to be a part of something they will always remember. I would also like to thank our staff – Mrs Elms (who
co-ordinated our item – production and staging); Mrs Sweeney (for all of the behind the scenes
organisation and also going along every night to supervise our students in the small schools choir); Mr
Henderson; Mrs Overton; Mrs Burley; Jenny and Keryn. Congratulations also to Sydney Hepper and
Chantelle Fryer for their participation in the small schools choir. Sadly Brodie Sharpe and Lillie
Hepburn were unable to perform in this because of illness.
School Concert We are very excited – hope you have the date in your calendar: Wednesday 21
st September. Our senior
students have already had some practice sessions at school during lunch and recess with Mrs Elms. They
have their own scripts and should also be practising at home. The staff also had a costume meeting on
Monday afternoon. If there is anyone out there who would like to help us sew some of the costumes we
would be very appreciative.
This year we are asking parents/carers of students in Years 2–6 for $5 to go towards the cost of costumes.
This is a hiring fee as the costumes will go into our costume store for future use. Please see attached sheet.
Big Scrub Public Speaking
The finalists – Daniel Czartowski; Connor Duncan; Makayla Murphy and Andrew Clark - went on to
Jiggi for the Big Scrub Public Speaking semi-final today. I will have more news on this in the next
newsletter.
Friday Assemblies are held fortnightly. The next assembly is this Friday 2nd
September commencing at
12:45 p.m.
Students are encouraged to borrow from our School Library every Thursday. All students need a library
bag for borrowing.
Closing Thought
"I'd rather look forward and dream, than look backward and regret." -- James Van Praagh
Jude Voisey, Principal.
Canteen News
At Caniaba Public School we are very fortunate to have our canteen operating entirely by volunteers.
Every dollar we make goes directly back to the students and helps fund projects like new iPads and sun
shelters for sports days. To keep this great service running we are putting the call out for more volunteers.
If you, or any of your family are able to help out one Friday per term please fill in the slip below and return
to the office. We need helpers to work on the day preparing and serving food, people to supply 60 pieces
of healthy recess food (cake, muffins, pikelets, quiches, slice etc.) and people to provide $20 to cover the
costs of fresh produce purchased.
Over the past few months we have had a great response to our special food days. Another one is planned
for September 9th
when we will be having a Mexican food day. If you are interested in being part of a
special food day in the future we would welcome your ideas and help. Team up with another parent or
family member and let us know what you would like to cook and when you are available. The canteen will
purchase all ingredients – you just need to cook and serve!
As the warmer months approach we are also looking to update our regular canteen menu. If you have any
ideas of healthy food items you would like to see included in our weekly menu please fill in the note
below.
With thanks,
Canteen Committee.

Class 3/4 Robotics Workshop Report
Dear Parents/Carers of the 3/4 Class,
I would like to talk about the experience of the Robotics Workshop. It
was lots of fun with the sphero balls we all enjoyed. We were learning
about the mechanics of the sphero ball and programming. We all had lots
and lots of fun.
We made chariots and mine was the best.
Thank you for reading my report.
