Simple Trusses

Two-Force Member - When a member is subjected to no couple moments and forces are only applied at two points.

Truss - A structure composed of slender members joined together at their end points.

Trusses in Puerto Rico

Assumptions: 1) All loadings are applied at the joints.2) The members are joined together by smooth pins.

Therefore: Each truss member acts like a two-force member, and their forces must be directed along their longitudinal axis.

Simple Truss - Is constructed by starting with a basic triangular element.

Methods for Truss Analysis 1) Method of Joints2) Method of Sections

Method of Joints - The joints of a truss can each be analyzed as particles.

Example Determine the force in each member of the truss. Indicate if the members are in tension or compression.

Example Determine the force in each member of the truss. Indicate if the members are in tension or compression. Take P1 = 3 KN and P2 = 2.7 KN.
