TRANSCRIPT

I am proud to present our final Key & Peele design presentation and video reel after 5 seasons of wildly ambitious cinematic sketches.  So many of our sketches went viral and delighted fans of all ages…including President Obama and the First Lady!

It has been an honor for the art department to design and construct these sets in what has been a true collaborative effort with our muses Keegan Michael-Key and Jordan Peele.

Thank you so much for your consideration in helping us to go out with a bang.

-Gary Kordan, Production Designer

Pirate Shanty, simple in premise, is a classic sketch that stops short of the typical rape-y lyrics but instead offers "political correct" advice on how to respect women and their choices. Aside from the wonderful art

direction and songwriting, the bit works because of the inherent absurdity of genre-mixing at work. -Alternet

Negrotown is wildly ambitious, incredibly poignant, and a complete triumph. With its rich color palate of reds, blues and yellows, decidedly

1950s Americana design, and painfully relevant inspiration, Key & Peele sets the scene for an alternative world. This is a masterpiece, plain and simple,

and an explosive way to end the series.  -Paste Magazine

The sketches never feel simple or routine, partly because of the wit and subtlety of the writing but also because of the attention paid to Costume and

Production Design. -The New York Times

Key & Peele eschews the haphazard whatever’s-in-the-costume-box approach in favor of a sleek, cinematic style. There are no fudged lines, crimes against drag, wobbling sets, or corpsing. Subjects are satirized by way

of precise imitation—you laugh harder because it looks like the real thing.  -The New Yorker

The show continues to stick to making sure every sketch looks exactly like the thing it's parodying.

-HitFix

There's no question that in the sketch game, but there are very few shows that pay as close attention to

detail as this one did. Tapping into the powers of set design, wardrobe, hair and makeup, editing, cinematography. -Vox

Key & Peele has always paid outstanding attention to detail, from the costuming and wigs of the many

characters its two central actors took on, to the cinematic approach to shooting its sketches, which feel a universe

apart from their roots in Saturday Night Live, Monty Python, and others.
