Offering you even greater choice and flexibility
In the year in which we celebrate our centenary and have introduced our new
identity, this brochure offers our widest ever range of language assessment, teaching
qualifications, admissions tests and other educational services.
Cambridge English exams make an enormous difference to the lives of millions of
learners all over the world. Our assessments and tests help to ensure that learners
focus on the knowledge and skills they need in the real world.
‘Cambridge English’ is a concept we share with Cambridge University Press and we
work together closely to provide a wide range of official preparation materials and other
resources to give teachers and candidates the best possible support when preparing for
the exams.
Our Cambridge English Teacher programme continues to grow, with institutional
membership now offering schools and other learning institutions flexible professional
development for their teachers.
Featuring for the first time in this brochure is the Admissions Testing Service – a
relatively new part of our organisation. In addition to the Occupational English Test
for medical and healthcare professionals, it offers admissions tests for education
institutions, employers and other organisations.
We have also included a section on CaMLA – our collaboration with the University of
Michigan – and the range of American English assessments it produces.
We believe that ours is the most comprehensive range of assessments, preparation and
educational support services offered by any language assessment organisation.
For you, this represents greater choice and flexibility – allowing you to respond to
changing circumstances with exactly the right exam or qualification, knowing there is
high-quality support in place.
You can also be secure in the knowledge that everything we do is underpinned by our
uncompromising approach to research, security and quality.

Computer-based tests are ideal for candidates more
comfortable with a keyboard and mouse than with paper
and pencil. They also offer more exam dates throughout
the year and permit shorter registration times – some
exams allow candidates to register as little as a week
before taking their test.
Our Cambridge English for Schools range of exams
features content particularly targeted at the interests and
experience of school-aged learners.
The table below gives you useful information about the
formats in which each exam is available.

Continuously reviewed andimprovedAll of our exams are part of a continuous programme
of quality assurance which ensures they are up to date,
accurate and relevant. For each new exam date, a unique
version of the exam is developed, and is passed through
a demanding process of quality assurance and pretesting
before we are satisfied that it is ready to be released.
We periodically review all of our exams to ensure they
reflect the latest research and methodology for teaching
and learning. This year we have released a major update
to Cambridge English: Proficiency . Reviews of Cambridge
English: First, Cambridge English: First for Schools and
Cambridge English: Advanced are under way for release
in 2015.
Backed by world-leading researchAll Cambridge English exams are supported by research
from the largest dedicated research team of any English
language assessment provider. Because we are a
not-for-profit department of the University of Cambridge,we have a strong commitment to education. For this
reason, in addition to contributing research and expertise
to important projects such as the European Survey on
Language Competences and English Profile, we share
much of our research with the wider language learning
and assessment community through publications such
as Research Notes and Studies in Language Testing.
Aligned to internationally acceptedlanguage standardsAll of our language exams are aligned with the Common
European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
– the international standard for describing language
ability. This not only makes it easier to set clear targets
for language learning, it helps colleges, universities,

Cambridge English Language Assessment conducts
regular revisions of all examinations as a key part of our
continuous quality processes. Since its launch in 1913,
Cambridge English: Proficiency , also known as Certificate of
Proficiency in English (CPE), has undergone a number of
significant revisions and the 2013 revision represents the
latest stage in the examination’s development.
The changes to Cambridge English: Proficiency have made
the test more user friendly, shorter and more suitable
for study and career advancement purposes. The Use of
English and Reading papers have been consolidated into
one paper, and a number of new task types have been
introduced.
The exam gives an in-depth assessment of a learner’s
ability and fluency at Level C2. This is the qualification to
prove that a learner is able to use English at near-native
levels in a wide range of situations.
Cambridge English: Proficiency gives learners the skills to
study at postgraduate level, debate and lead academictutorials and seminars, lead on high-level research
projects, and communicate at board level.
Cambridge English: Proficiency remains the most thorough
and comprehensive examination of Level C2 available,
and continues to empower learners to study and work at
the highest levels.
