National Junior Honor Society Students Help Out Those in Need National Junior Honor Society students at SS. Peter & Paul School recently spent time on a service project for children who reside at Perry Housing in the City of Buf-falo. Students put together stockings with various toilet-ries. The stockings will be distributed at a community Christmas party. Pictured from left: David Hayes, Brandon Gaspar, Elizabeth Gracon, Emma Zablonski and Shannon Dienes.

Southtowns Catholic School Book in a Box
Miss Annmarie Busha's Grade 4 class did a "Book in a Box" project. The kids had to read a book and then deco-rate a box to represent the book. They had to fill it with at least 8 different objects that represent sections of the book. Each object needed a note card that included the name of the object and a paragraph about how the object is impor-tant to the book. Gymnastics Unlimited Heads to the National Training Center
Lakeview resident, Lea Philarom, age 9, from Pinehurst school district, has recently returned from the national training center in Houston, TX. She attended the presti-gious TOPs training camp at the Karolyi’s Ranch. Lea has been training at Gymnastics Unlimited for several years.TOPs (Talent Opportunity Program)is USA Gymnastics program to discover the most talented gymnasts in the country. Many Olympic gymnasts got their start in the TOPs program. Throughout the summer, 3,000 athletes ages 7-10 tested around the country. The top 300 qualified to the National Training Center in New Waverly, TX. The top 50 7 year olds automatically qualify to the Diamond Team. Jayden Ecker,7, of Orchard Park, qualified in that top 50 earning a spot on the Diamond team. Lea and Savannah Sayoc both qualified to go to the National test in October and Lea earned a spot on the TOPs B team. Lea went to the training camp at the Ranch with coach-es June and Olivia Haas. Developmental Team coordina-tor Valerie Liukin, two time 1988 Olympic gold medalist, led the camp and was joined by members of the Nation-al Coaching Staff to train the athletes and educate their coaches. Coaches lectures were held after every training session while athletes participated in team building exer-cises.

Assemblyman DiPietro Donates Clothes At J.T. Waugh Elementary
New York State Assemblyman David DiPietro recently ran a clothes drive for needy students at the John T. Waugh Elementary School. He generously donated clothes and jackets and stuffed bags with a variety of sizes to accom-modate many students. Also included was candy for a little holiday cheer! A.J. Schmidt Elementary Fifth-Grade Students Donates Gifts
to Stone’s Buddies Pro A.J. Schmidt Elementary School’s Fifth Graders, under the direction of Mrs. Amanda Galenda and Mrs. Mary Beth Brumagin, created gifts for Stone’s Buddies at Woman and Children’s Hospital. Representatives of the fifth-grade class; Riley Fleming, Christina Duffy, and Samuel Esch-berger delivered the gifts with Mrs. Galenda and Mrs. Bru-magin. Allegra Jaros, President of Woman and Children’s Hospital and Ms. Joanne Koessler-Lana, Director of Stone’s Buddies, were on hand to accept the gifts from the stu-dents. The Fifth Graders created 16 original storybooks, 14 activity folders, and 276 rubber band friendship bracelets. Ms. Jaros and Ms. Koessler-Lana were thrilled with the gestures and gave them to patients who were hospitalized over the holiday break. Stone’s Buddies is a program for chronically ill children at the Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo. It was cre-ated in memory of former patient Stone Filipovich. The program provides a network of resources, support, friend-ship and fun for the many kids that regularly use the insti-tution.

Lake Shore High School Freshman Academy Goes Hats Off For the Holidays
This past December, the Lake Shore Freshman Academy and its families collaborated to collect winter hats for St. Luke's and St. Vincent DePaul Missions both located in Buffalo. The goal was to collect 200 hats they collected well over that amount. A special thank you goes out to both our Lake Shore parents New Era Cap Company for donating 100 hats to the cause. The objective of this project was to not only provide life essentials for those in need but also to show our freshmen that there is a bigger world outside of our Lake Shore com-munity and that they need to be socially aware of the world around them.

Reason: Lake Shore Central School Board Denies Veterans School Tax Exemption
We, the signers of this petition, are asking the LSC School Board to let the people vote and have a voice in this matter as is our Constitutional right as it affects every Evans School District taxpayer.
While some of the surrounding area schools have passed such a matter, the LSC school board of Evans has been very reluctant to do so. We are asking for a referendum. PUT IT TO A VOTE - let the people of Evans decide for them-selves. With enough signatures, we hope to compel the LSC School Board to give the vote to the people as is their Constitutional right to be heard in this FREE AMERICA. Power to the voter in a Democratic Land, not the select few who may need to be replaced.
(PLEASE HELP SUPPORT YOUR VETERANS)
If you wish to sign this petition and have not seen one, PLEASE COME TO THE VFW POST 5798 @ 8989 Erie Rd., Angola, NY 14006

LS Club Receives $4,000 Garden Program Grant
The Boys & Girls club of Lake Shore recently applied for and received a grant to begin a new Garden Program on the Club’s grounds. The KeyBank Foundation generously pro-vided $4,000 for the new project, and the Club could not be more thrilled and grateful! The Club members will be able to participate in the beginning stages of the program come late spring. The kids will be able to research the types of plants/vegetables they would like to include in the garden, contribute to its design and construction, learn about its features and benefits, and maintain it over time (includ-ing picking and eating!). The Gardening Club Program will inspire our kids and give them a strong educational opportunity to learn new skills that will simultaneously teach them the art of self-reliance and sustainability for the future. Again, we would like to thank KeyBank for this amazing opportunity that would not have been possible without this charitable funding. The Club received the grant on January 5th. Pictured from left to right are: James Przepasniak (Lake Shore Su-perintendent), Dusti Wilson (Club Advisory Board), Justin Simet (Club Unit Director), Michelle Ford (Evans KeyBank Branch Manager), and Kathleen Garrigan (Club Advisory Board).
