Pop Genius Marketing Genius

Even if you don’t like her music or style,

here are 10 ways educators can be a

marketing genius like Gaga!

Lady Gaga

isn’t shy about

speaking her

mind.

In doing so, she keeps herself in the public

eye.

It’s easy to be opinionated when you’re

passionate.

Be passionate about your teaching practice.

Genuine passion will inspire your students, teachers, parents, &

community.

Gaga has worked tirelessly on accumulating

over 27 million Twitter followers &

52 million Facebook fans.

She drives loyalty by regularly Tweeting

her fans (sometimes on an hourly basis!)

even before the Grammy Awards.

“My little monster sweeties are already camped outside today show! I love u! Will be sending u pizza and water all day! And a surprise 2morro! X”

@LadyGaga

Social Media is here to stay.

Yeah, it’s not a fad.

Have a web presence in your profession &

community. Tweet, Google+,

Facebook, whatever rocks your boat.

Just be seen.

Differentiate wisely.

There are too many normal people doing

normal things.

Show, don’t tell.

You are extraordinary so show it.

“I used to walk down the street like I was a #%@ rock star…. I want people to walk around delusional about how great they can be – and then FIGHT so hard for it everyday that the lie becomes the truth.”

-Lady Gaga

Channel your inner rock

star.

Fake it until you make it.

“A group needs only two things to be a tribe: a shared interest and a way to communicate.”

-Seth Godin

We are a tribe.

We are stronger when we share.

Each one of us has something to contribute.

Take. Use.

Share.

Create a chain reaction of

AWEsome!

The more you give, the more you will get back.

Embrace and live Creative Commons.

Gaga calls her fans Little Monsters and gives them

a shared symbol.

Who knows it?

The official Little Monster greeting is

the outstretched “monster claw”

hand.

This allows fans to identify each other and to connect to

their tribe. Even Oprah knows the Little

Monster greeting!

This is branding genius.

Consider branding yourself, your school, your practice, or your

program.

Treat them well and they will make you a superstar.

Professional photographers are barred from concerts

but Gaga allows her fans to record and upload videos of her

live performances on the YouTubes.

Love our Little Monsters.

Think of ways to make them feel special in your

Classroom, library, or school.

Make them feel like they belong to an exclusive club.

Red Carpet

VIP

Step and repeat.

You can’t please everyone, right?

Gaga routinely takes it a step further and “stirs the pot” with people that she isn’t going to

please anyway, keeping her in the news and

reinforcing her message.

“Well, that’s your opinion isn’t it? And I’m not about to waste my time trying to change it”

- Lady Gaga

 Some  people  won’t  like  you.

Trying  to  be  a  constant  people-‐pleaser  can  make  you  stressed  &  professionally

discouraged.

Education advocacy sometimes stirs the

pot.

Grab a spoon.

Just always keep our best customers, our Little Monsters,

our students, the priority.

They are always #1

Lady Gaga has a long list of supporters.

Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton being one of the biggest.

Befriending someone like Perez is a perfect ally in her quest for

pop world domination.

Make an ally of your administrator.

Try not to say NO to any reasonable request.

Say, “I can make that happen – let me get back to

you with the details!”

Spoil the font office secretaries.

And always, always, get the

head custodian on your side.

Lady Gaga writes KILLER pop hits

She doesn’t produce a huge amount of them, but everything

she does is done very well and is worth

talking about.

Collaborate with your fellow teachers to create killer

Ed-tech lessons.

Create killer online 24/7 research & tech resources

for your students.

(a Wikispace is wonderful for this!)

Provide killer professional development & tech resources

for your teachers.

The Gaga brand is very calculated.

Everything she does is on purpose.

“Some women choose to follow men, and some choose to follow their dreams. If you’re wondering which way to go, remember that your career will never wake up and tell you it doesn’t love you anymore.”

- Lady Gaga

Teaching is a calling.

But having a balance to your real life and teaching practice

is key.

A quality life makes a quality teacher.

So, I asked my Tweeps…

“What is your purpose?” “What is your passion?”

“Mobile Learning!” –  Diane Darrow, CT

“Instruction in our field”- Heather Moorefield, VA  “Foster  curiosity!”  –  Michelle Luhtala, CT

“Give out information!” –  Suzi  W.,  PA

“Connect reluctant readers with "their" book” -‐  Susan  Needham,  MO

“Gifted education” – Karen Mensing, AZ

What is YOUR

Passion?

Celebrate your

passion!

Share your

passion!

Be fabulous!

Be fierce!

Be daring!

Be devoted!

Be a Rock Star!

Be YOU!
