2002 VBMP Product Licensing
• VGIN is removing licensing restrictions– User input heavily in favor– Experience has shown it to be restrictive– Product is almost 5 years old– Rand Corp. study: “Mapping The Risks”

2002 VBMP Product Licensing• What does this mean?
– “Release from License Agreement”
• Local Jurisdictions can distribute as they see fit
• State Agencies can distribute to their business partners as needed
• VGIN will distribute regional and statewide datasets by request as resources allow

2002 VBMP Products• One meter statewide product
– Boxed set of six DVDs
• High Resolution Imagery– Statewide: three external hard drives
• 750 gigabytes each
• Custom requests filled as resources allow
• Available through web services

Orthophotography for Schools
• GIS Software and Secondary Schools– ESRI & Dept. of Education license agreement
• “Geospatial Instructional Applications Initiative”
– Currently 495 schools have been given software (ArcView)
• VGIN wants to provide a One Meter VBMP DVD set to each school receiving ArcView

FEMA Update• Dialog with FEMA contacts
– Flood Plain Map Modernization Program
• Utilization of 2002 VBMP Orthos as a Base Map for FEMA Updates
• FEMA interest contributing to Contour data development for 2007 VBMP– Currently comparing planned VBMP data
development with FEMA needs

Metadata Portal Toolkit• “…oversee the development of a catalog of
GIS data available in the Commonwealth.” – § 2.2-2026 Code of Virginia
• Metadata Portal Toolkit will fulfill this mandate– Will allow check in, check out, and browsing of
geospatial metadata– Will provide training to state and local
government– Timeframe for completion: April 2007
